Chapter Text
It was raining hard in Gotham that night, making it hard to see in the harsh dark that covered the streets like a blanket of shadows. In the shadows, two boys are leaping and flying through an endless sea of buildings and alleyways. Until they find a covered perch shielding them from the onslaught of cold rain.
"Dami, I thought you said it wasn't supposed to rain," The tall boy said, his cape hanging heavily on his back.
"First, you need to use code names, and second, it was not supposed to; that is the information Oracle told me." Suddenly, the comms in their ears sounded with a familiar hum. "Sorry, guys, I was so busy last week that I did not double-check the weather." Damain let out his usual sound of annoyance. However, Jon noticed his agitation and was the first to speak.
"Robin, it's not her fault. It was a mistake."
The rain seemed to pour even harder, only furthering Damian's annoyance.
"A mistake that could have been avoided, something as simple as checking the weather, is too idiotic to forget." Barbara could only sigh and check the weather report. Damian has always been difficult when it comes to small things.
"If it was so idiotic to forget, then why did you not check the weather?" Jon teased with a smug look on his face. However, the look on Damian's face could have killed.
"Superboy, I'll have you know that-" but before the argument could start, Barbara spoke on the comms.
"Guys, please stay focused. The rain should clear in about an hour or two. So please just be safe and continue looking for the target and remember we do not know much about him, just that he is in Gotham tonight planning something."
"Of course we'll be safe, and we'll make sure to stop him, right Robin?" Jonathon said, but when he turned around to look at where Robin had been standing a few moments ago, he was gone.
"Uhh, Oracle, you said that the target was west of crime alley."
"Yes, Superboy, is there something wrong?"
"No, nothing at all, I have to go."
"Wait super-" Barbara began to say before he heard the distinct sounds of the comm being cut off. Her annoyance and worry immensely sky rocketed, but there was not much she could do besides let the closest bats know that Robin and Superboy had disconnected their comms, again. She really has to find a way to sort that out.
It only took a few minutes before Superboy was able to catch up to Robin. The rain still pouring harshly onto them.
“Robin, wait up, remember we need to be careful” Robin slowed down and landed on the edge of a building just a few streets over from Gotham Hospital. “I know of the mission Superboy I was the one who found out about the target and planned everything perfectly” Damian huffed out. The cold was sleeping through his suit and beginning to make his muscles stiff.
“Is this about what I said earlier?” Damian's silence said it all.
“Come on Dami, you know I was just teasing you.” Jon went towards Damian and grabbed his hips pulling him close. The warmth of Jon’s hands sent shivers down Damian’s spine. A welcomed comfort from the cold.
“I am aware of your teasing and I do not care”, He obviously cared, “and it is your fault we got caught in the rain by the way not because i failed to check”
Jon smiled pulling Damian impossibly close “And how is it my fault”
“You were being a distraction when putting the case together and so when Oracle had informed that there would be no rain I simply did not double check”
Jon, while a smile was still on his face his eyes had hints of desire in them.
“Tell me Dami how was I distracting you” Jon knew exactly how, because that day Damain was hunched over doing his research, they were both sitting on Damian’s bed papers scattered around in neat piles and Damian’s laptop placed on his lap everything was calm and quite until Jon began placing small kisses on Damian’s neck slowly trailing them down his neck to his jaw line. As the kisses became frequent and Jon’s hand ventured further, Damian could no longer focus on the research at hand. He sat the computer next to him and maneuvered into Jon’s lap where he began returning the affections that were given to him. The research and thought of the mission were hastily forgotten.
In the present however Jon’s hand still lay on Damian's hips awaiting an answer. “Come Dami tell me how I distracted you” Jon’s smile now resembles more of a smirk.
“Code names” was all Damian said before placing a hurried kiss on Jon’s lips.
All Jon could do was keep Damian close as he led the fevered kiss. The cold rain felt cooling against their heated skin. The kiss lasted for only a few minutes before Damian reluctantly pulled away. Leaving Jon breathless and wanting more.
“Now who is distracting who” Jon said still breathless
“I have no idea what you speak of,” Damian stated smugly.
Before their conversation could continue however the sound of gunshots grabbed their attention. The two move quickly, the desire from their kiss leaving their bodies as they head to the quickly sound. As they approach they can hear yelling from two women and a man. They stopped just before the situation quickly making sure to turn on their comms.
“Superboy what can you see my vision is to obscured from the rain”
Jon immediately observed the situation.
“It is two women, one of them has a gun and the other is standing behind her. The gun is pointed at a man..” Jon paused for a moment.
“Robin, that's our target. The man is our target”
The two spared each other a small glance before jumping into action.
They landed just in front of the women. “Your okay now help is here” Jon said to the women with a reassuring smile
“Thank god that man tried to grab us but I shot him” the woman with a gun yelled as she and her friend moved to get somewhere more safe. “Wait you what” Jon said before getting a good look at the man. Sure enough there was a bleeding wound on his side. Realizing they had the advantage, the boys move to detain the man. However, the man was not at the big disadvantage they thought.
Before the boys could detain him, a cloud of purple smoke surrounded them.
“What is this”
“I am not sure but put this on” Damian said handing Jonathan a respirator, while putting his own on. “We need to be careful it is hard to see with the rain and now even harder with the smoke”
The man made a charge at where the women were hiding but Robin, while he could not see well, was still ever vigilant and hit the man with the back end of his katana. The man kneeled over momentarily before getting up still heading in the same direction but now superboy had jumped in rushing to try and take the man down.
It was like the man did not even notice Superboy and Robin. His focus was only on those two women. The fight persisted for a few minutes mainly the man dodging the tactical attacks. Before he finally stopped for a moment he seemed to have realized the women were gone. Likely had run off at some point during the fight.
So now his focus was on the boys “Well it appears I will not be getting who I truly want but you too will do” The man lunged forward aiming to grab Robin but missed when Robin side stepped moving next to Superboy.
“I do not have time for this I simply have to see if it will work” After the man spoke he threw down a bottle in front of the boys. Before they could react, the bottle exploded causing a purple liquid to get on the boys. They moved the second they realized what happened but it was too late whatever the man had wanted he succeed and burning hot pain had exploited throughout their bodies.
“I know you you both are in a lot of pain but it will be over soon enough, However I do want you to know my name is Sillian and I will be needed the both of you soon very soon” With that the man now know as Sillian was gone, disappeared in a ball of swirling smoke.
The boys how every lay on the ground withering in pain. Heat coursed through them as the purple liquid that makes contact with skin painfully absorbed into their bodies. After what felt like forever, suddenly a rush of cold washed over their bodies and their eyes glowed a bright purple. Then the pain stopped. The only thing that could be heard in the alley was the heavy breathing from the two.
“The rain stopped” Damian said, breaking the trance they were both in. Jon immediately spurred into action, opening the comm.
“Oracle me and Robin were hit with something we are unsure of the affects we need assistance”
“Of course superboy help is a few minutes away just sit tight and use first aid if necessary” With that the comm when silent Barbara going into work mode gathering anything she could from the boys location and information from cameras.
“Jon are you okay” Damian had asked moving close to Jonathan “Robin code names and I am well I notice no physical injuries and the pain has completely subsided” Jon said his tone uncharitably intense.
“That’s great I also think I am okay that I feel off though. I don’t know how to explain it though”
“Me aswell”
“I guess we just have to wait for help” Damian said as a smile spread across his face.
After help had arrived both boys were taken into the batcave for examination. There seemed to be nothing wrong with them physically and any traces of the purple substance were collected for testing. However all they could do is wait to see if there were any changes. The boys quickly informed everyone of what happened on the mission. Then Clark came to pick up Jon unsure if he should fly if there was anything wrong and Damian after a stern lecture about turning off comms was sent to bed. Little did everyone know things were about to get weird.
