Chapter Text
Medkit and Subspace - they were definitely a complicated pair. Coworkers in the region of Blackrock, a nightmare to some, a dream to others and less educated individuals. Although Blackrock wasn't a very welcoming place it was one where you'd make life long friends due to the high security measures of the region. It wasn't easy to be trusted - one wrong move, jail? Exile. One wrong thing said about the higher-ups and you're done, don't even think about 𝘨𝘰𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘢𝘨𝘢𝘪𝘯𝘴𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘮. It was a strict place and one that Medkit managed to escape in the dead of night, at the time the residents at the border were either there but unaware, or not there - which was rare. It's the very reason Medkit managed to escape. He planned it the same night.
Now, we have gotten a brief description of Blackrock. What about Medkit's current home?
The Lost Temple was a different story, unlike Blackrock, you could see the Sun. It was inside of a desert - temperatures reaching 48°C at times. Crazy for someone who grew up in the coldest region in their world - literally, coldest with the temperature and with how they acted. The Lost Temple was also really luxurious, the better term is - the region was rich, both in culture and money-wise. Medkit found some friends - Scythe, Sword and Katana. They were generally cool people - Scythe being a girl and the other two being guys.
_____________Present time_______________
𝙈𝙀𝘿𝙆𝙄𝙏 𝙋𝙊𝙑:___________________________
It was a genuinely normal morning at The Lost Temple - the Sun was shining through every single window, and there was a lot of windows! It was about 2 weeks after Medkit ran away from Blackrock and it was 43°C — normal, right? Except it wasn't, not for Medkit. He was up, it was 7am - too early considering he fell asleep at 2am because of some experiments that took extra time.
Medkit was laying in his bed, he dropped the covers on the floor - it was too hot outside. He didn't have energy to get up - if he didn't Sword would piss the hell out of him when he woke up. Reluctantly, Medkit sat up on his bed while yawning. He didn't get enough sleep, but that never stopped him.
He stood up and walked to his closet, took out his usual attire and put in on lazily. The clothes weren't ironed so they were messy. Medkit then walked out of his room, walked downstairs and took a beeline to the kitchen where Scythe and Sword already were, Katana was doing god knows what in god knows where.
"'Ay Med, good morning"
"Good morning, Scythe."
Medkit went straight to the cabinets, took out a mug and poured himself an almost full cup then downed half of it - he was a coffee addict at best. Sword took notice of Medkit's tiredness and asked about it.
"Med, did you stay up late working again?"
"No"
He almost instantly replied to Sword's question, but both Scythe and Sword could easily tell it was a lie. A moron could tell it was a lie!
"By the way you're chuggin' that coffee we can both tell. You ain't foolin' no one with acting that horrible"
Scythe had to chuckle. She wasn't one to contain emotions but she did not say that in any way close to egotistical, she just wasn't that type of person.
"Nope..."
Medkit just left the room with his coffee, he almost spilled it while walking out the room since he didn't see the edge of the leg of the chair.. Happens, am i right?
Medkit spent that morning in his room. He couldn't bother to leave, honestly, he had no interest in anything outside - the window was agitating enough and the heat... It was absolutely horrible. He looked at the thermometer that Scythe beautifully gave him a week ago after he complained about the heat. 45°C. It wasn't even noon, meaning it would get to at least 46°C at noon, maybe 47°C. It was pain - as Medkit described it.
Medkit was at his desk, doing experiments with crystals - he had many crystals so he played around with the shape, chipping some parts in order to make it more powerful - that was the goal. Medkit's thoughts trailed off.. '𝘛𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘸𝘢𝘴 𝘢𝘭𝘸𝘢𝘺𝘴 𝙝𝙞𝙨 𝘨𝘰𝘢𝘭. A goal 𝙝𝙚 ever 𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘤𝘩𝘦𝘥' Medkit snapped out of it, lifting his hand and putting it over his eye patch - the eye patch that covered his empty eye socket. 𝙃𝙞𝙨 fault. It was all 𝙝𝙞𝙨 fault. But what could he do? Whine about it? Lash out at the wall for things ending the way they did? He hated 𝙝𝙞𝙢. He should hate 𝙝𝙞𝙢. 𝙃𝙚 never considered Medkit. It was all about 𝙝𝙞𝙢.. 𝘏𝘪𝘮, 𝘩𝘪𝘮 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘩𝘪𝘮. 𝘈𝘭𝘸𝘢𝘺𝘴 𝘩𝘪𝘮. There was no time to ponder on these thoughts, Medkit has work to do.
And work he did, up until 1pm when he realized he skipped breakfast. Boo hoo. It doesn't matter. Scythe always made lunch around 3pm - MOST of the time it was somewhat edible. They all sucked at cooking except for Katana. Sword was okay at cooking but he'd burn down the kitchen and more if he tried to cook something.
Cooking definitely wasn't Medkit's strong suit.
Medkit didn't want to be in the silence anymore. The silence was obnoxiously loud. He turned on some music. And continued working. It was his old shared playlist. Medkit didn't like specific music. Anything that sounded cool and he could listen to - he liked. He wasn't the type to think about 'What ifs'... It was pointless. A waste of time. His music played in the background — silencing his thoughts about 𝙝𝙞𝙢.
An MSI song played in the background, one that he specially forgot to take off his old shared playlist... 'This hurts' added by...𝙝𝙞𝙢. Medkit ignored that and just listened to it, not paying attention to the lyrics or the meaning. It was a constant reminder that what's done is done.

Medkit snapped out of his trance. The song that played now was the end of 'Meteor Shower' he must've zoned out during 'This Hurts'...
He looked at the clock - 9am... Meaning he zoned out for almost two hours. And didn't eat anything. With a sigh, Medkit stood up and glanced at his desk. He didn't do any work whatsoever. He walked out of his room with his hair messier than he came in with and went back to the kitchen he left two hours ago after Scythe annoyed the hell out of him.
"Mornin' again Med. Did ya take a power nap? Y' left your coffee here."
"No I was working."
"Working my ass! You always make noise while you work. I just heard music and a whole lot of silence."
"..."
Medkit didn't reply and rolled his eyes, Sword was staring at a wall like a crazy person and Katana? God knows.
"Well, Medkit... Me and Sword want to go grocery shopping to the local store and stuff - y' wanna come w' us?"
"Fuck... Fine."
Medkit had nothing to do, so he might as well go with them.

Scythe brought a shopping list of stuff they needed to buy and Sword was eager to go since he was the somewhat hyperactive person. Medkit was tired and tried not to fall asleep while walking and following Scythe and Sword through the store with a shopping cart. Medkit's thoughts still went back to what he thought about when he zoned out... 𝙎𝙪𝙗𝙨𝙥𝙖𝙘𝙚... And.. Blackrock - he should hate it all, it took his future that he wanted... He wanted to become something in the Medical field but probably a teacher in a college.. He didn't want to be a doctor. He wasn't fit for it. Blackrock took his future, crushed his expectations on life and his experience for the longest time... And, well, his eye. He should hate it all! But he... Couldn't. He couldn't. His feelings for Subspace were complicated, really complicated.
He didn't know what to do anymore. He can't just... Continue like this, but all hopes of seeing Subspace are gone, he doesn't want to see him but he also needs to see him again. He missed the touch... Their relationship... And they never got to actually talk about how they really felt about each other.

"Medkit!!"
Scythe's voice snapped him out of this trance... He really has to stop doing this before someone accidentally runs him over if he does this in the middle of the road.
"Wha- what!?"
"We're in the middle of a grocery store, remember?!"
"Fuck... Right"
Medkit forgot about that for a moment.. Right... He's in the grocery store Scythe and Sword reluctantly got him to agree coming to with them.
"What's up with y', Med?"
"Nothing.. Just zoned out"
"Mhm, for good 15 minutes."
"Shut up, Scythe, I'm tired."
"Y're always tired"
"Rightfully so, you're exhausting"
"And here I thought I was the rude one. Fineee I'll leave y' alone"
"Thank you."
"Who says I'm done pestering you??"
Sword just invited himself into the conversation..
"... I'm done with you both"
"Nope! Whatcha zoning out about?? Is it someone? Is it.. Something? No.. It has to be something, uh.. Is it something bad? Is it something good??"
Sword kept persistently asking thousands of questions as the three of them walked home and finally. Katana was back at the Lost Temple after.. Uh.. God knows, I repeat.
Medkit simply greeted Katana with a 'hello' and went straight to the kitchen. Medkit took Melatonin and went straight to his room. Medkit occasionally had nightmares, but forgot most of them. The last few nightmares have been really.. Well... Odd.

Medkit sat up and started breathing heavily... It was just a nightmare... A really really odd nightmare. And hell.. He'll remember this one for a while.
Thankfully, Scythe yelled something from the kitchen, meaning it's lunch time soon so Medkit didn't bother getting up until Scythe actually said it was lunch time.

"Ey' Med!!! It's lunch time!!!"
Scythe yelled at the top of her lungs so Medkit could hear. Medkit didn't yell back and instead just went upstairs to the kitchen and sat down next to Sword. Katana was also there and was making small talk with Scythe.
The four of them ate, Medkit barely talked since he was still shooken up from that nightmare. Would Subspace do that if they saw each other? Was Subspace mad.. Or.. sad? No. That man is morally gray and Medkit probably worsened everything by leaving and taking their research.
"Medkit, you never told us about how you got here... You just came here one day and asked for a place to stay"

"..."
Medkit didr answer that.
"You never told us what region you're actually from.. When you came you didn't look or act like someone from The Lost Temple. Are you a playgrounder? I have a friend who's a playgrounder.. Maybe be knows you-"
"Sword, Medkit didn't look like a playgrounder. Playgrounders don't wear what he wore when he arrived."
Katana corrected.
"Then he's from the Thieves' den!"
"Maybe.. I mean, what other region is there?"
Sword thought...
"Blackrock? But no way, no one knows anything about that place other than the fact that it's the coldest region and there's no Sun and-"
"Sword... Dear lord... M' not even religious... Okay, Sword - maybe let's not take out that he might be from Blackrock.. He passed out as soon as he came and then after that because of the heat"
"Fair... Fair..."
"But he still could be from the Thieves' den.. Y' never know."
"I'm from Blackrock"
Medkit was honestly uncomfortable when they discussed where he's from instead of asking him like a human being.
"Unexpected.. But sure!"
Sword accepted it - at least now they know one thing about Medkit.
