Pajama party

Summary:

Grian wakes up in the mansion feeling unwell, but Scar isn't next to him like he usually is.

He goes on a search for the man only to discover that he isn't there. Thankfully, Scar's friends/staff is happy to take care of him while they wait for Scar to return.

Part of the 'of blood and love' series but it's not necessary to have read that to read this.

Notes:

It's Grian's turn to be sick and miserable.

Work Text:

Grian woke up exhausted, he turned around in bed with his eyes closed. His hand started searching for the person that usually woke up next to him, but he wasn't there. Grian opened his eyes and looked around the room, trying to find Scar.

The light in the hallway was on, but that didn't mean anything. In this house someone would be awake at all times, no matter how late or early in the day it was. Grian's eyes went over to the bathroom, there was no light coming from under the door so Scar probably wasn't there.

Grabbing his phone, Grian forced himself to get out of bed. He took a few steps onto the cold floor, checking the time as he walked. It was five am, why in the world was he awake? If he could he would have turned back around and jumped into the nice warm bed.

But he first wanted to know where Scar was.

And so he started his journey out of the room, looking around the hallway for Scar. Eventually he reaches the staircase and even though everything is screaming at him to go back to bed he walks down. His head feels like a wrecking ball is hitting it with every step Grian took, but Grian ignored it in favor of finding Scar.

When Grian walked downstairs he saw light coming from the kitchen, ah that was probably where Scar was. Grian wanted to speed up a little but his body protested so he walked over to the kitchen as fast as he could go, which was very slow.

Eventually he made it there, he opened the door to reveal… not Scar.

Inside the kitchen was Cleo, drinking a glass of water. Her head down as she swiped on her phone, Grian looked around the room, hoping that Scar was just around the corner. But the only person in the room was Cleo who finally looked up from their phone.

"Grian? Are you okay?" Cleo asked, placing the glass down and her phone in her pocket as she walked over to Grian. "I- yeah, I'm fine. Just looking for Scar, have you seen him?" Grian asked, suddenly Cleo's hand was on his forehead, he pulled away from it "What are you doing?" he asked.

"Checking if you're okay, now stand still." she said, bringing her hand back to his forehead. "Why wouldn't I be okay?" Grian asked in confusion, he was tired and felt a bit bad but he was fine. "You look like you're dead on your feet." Cleo said, she took her hand back "And you definitely have a fever, why are you out of bed?"

"I just told you, I'm looking for Scar." Grian replied, mentally making a list with other places the man could be at this time. "Grian, Scar is away on a mission. He won't be back until later today." Cleo replied, she placed a hand on Grian's back "Come, you should sit down." they said, bringing Grian over to the living room.

Wait, Scar was gone? Oh, yeah, that was right. Scar left a few days earlier to go… to… Grian didn't remember where he had gone.

Grian didn't protest as he was pushed to sit down and a blanket was thrown towards him. Where Cleo had gotten the blanket Grian didn't know but he was surprisingly cold all of a sudden. "Can I get you anything else?" Cleo asked, shaking his head. Grian lay down on the couch, his head suddenly felt too heavy.

"No thank you." he replied, Cleo sat down next to him "Should I call Doc?" she asked, Grian shook his head. "I'll be fine, he's probably asleep." he said, Cleo let out a chuckle. "As if that man actually sleeps." she said before she reached for the remote on the table and turned the tv on.

She grabbed a blanket for herself, "You don't have to stay with me." Grian said, noticing that she wasn't planning on leaving any time soon. "I know, but I don't wanna leave you all alone. Plus Scar would have my head if I actually left you alone right now." she said, trying to pick a movie on tv.

"Don't you have to sleep?" Grian asked her, she couldn't just sit here all night? morning? Grian didn't know but she couldn't stay with him when she was supposed to be asleep. But Grian's question was just met with laughter. "Nah, I'll be fine. I wasn't planning on sleeping anyway."

Grian was curious but decided that it would be better if he didn't ask.

Eventually Cleo came to a decision for a movie and turned it on. At first Grian tried to listen but he eventually just gave up, he was lost in thoughts for a little bit until he fell asleep.

When Grian woke up it was to voices "Is he okay?" was the first thing that he heard. "Yeah, he's just a little sick. He was in the kitchen searching for Scar at like five am. It looked like he could barely stand so I made him lay down." Cleo explained softly.

As she explained this Grian woke up more and more before he chose to open his eyes. "Aw, well Scar is on his way back so he should be here soon." Impulse replied to Cleo, he was sitting on the couch next to Cleo, watching whatever was on the tv "Oh good morning," A voice said from Grian's left.

When Grian turned his head towards his left he saw Skizz sitting on the couch next to him, a bright smile on his face. "Morning," Grian replied, Cleo and Impulse were now looking at him too now that they knew that he was awake. "Good morning Grian, how are you feeling?" Cleo asked.

"And no lying," Impulse added for her, Grian looked between the three people in front of him and decided that he was actually going to tell the truth. There wasn't anything that he had planned that day anyway, and lying on the couch for a little while sounds great. "Not great," Grian answered vaguely.

"Want me to get you something to eat?" Impulse asked, hearing the words eat did not make Grian feel any better, it made him feel worse actually. Nausea crept its way up his body as he shook his head "Nauseous?" Impulse asked, Grian answered by nodding again.

Impulse places a comforting hand on Grian's shoulder "I'll get you something light to eat later." Impulse announced with a sweet smile. The last thing Grian wanted to think about now was having to eat, he tried to not think about any kinds of food. But of course that made him think of food.

Food that Grian usually loved now made him nauseous, Grian hated being sick.

"I'm assuming that we're going to be spending the rest of the day on the couch." Skizz asked, the three others in the room turned their heads towards Grian for an answer "What?" Grian asked, he couldn't decide for them if they were spending the rest of the day on the couch with him. He didn't know what else they had to do.

"Do you want to stay on the couch for the rest of the day?" Impulse asked, Grian nodded. "Unless you all want me to go to my room. You know that might be better, that way I won't be able to pass my illness to any of you." Grian said, already getting up but he was stopped by Impulse's arm.

"Oh no, you are not leaving for that reason." He said, shaking his head. "It's too late for us already anyway Grian, there's no reason to quarantine you now. Plus, you shouldn't be alone while you're sick." Cleo said, looking over at Skizz Grian saw that the man was nodding, it seemed like he agreed with Skizz's statement.

"Well I guess that that means that we're spending a lazy day on the couch. I'm gonna change into some more comfy clothes." Skizz said, disappearing out of the room. "Oh good idea," Impulse said, getting up and following the man. "They're not going to leave me alone, are they?" Grian asked Cleo.

A laugh left Cleo as they shook their head. "Nope, no they are not." she answered. Grian groaned and tried to act as if he was really annoyed by it, but he of course wasn't. It was sweet that the men cared so much about him, they could be a bit overprotective sometimes. But that was just how they showed their love.

It didn't take long before the men returned, wearing their pajamas and holding some blankets and pillows in their arms. Impulse was wearing a batman pajama existing out of a dark gray short sleeved shirt with batman's face on it and the text "I am batman and I'm going to bed" on it. He was also wearing light gray pants with tiny black bats on them.

Skizz was standing next to him wearing some super man pajamas. He too was wearing a short sleeved shirt but his was white instead of gray. The shirt had a picture of superman on it with the text 'I'm superman and I'm a super sleeper'. He was wearing dark blue shorts with the superman logo all over them.

The two men walked into the room and threw their blankets and pillows on the couch next to Grian before they sat down and started arranging them. Grian watched their every move "Cool pajamas," he said, Skizz nodded "They originally came with capes but we had to take those off because they kept dragging things behind them when we walked." he replied.

"What a shame," Cleo mumbled from behind Grian. Grian didn't know what to think about the pajamas, they looked stupid but Skizz and Impulse seemed to like them. "Bdubs and Scar also have some, Bdubs has a green lantern one and Scar has a flash one. We offered to get Cleo a wonder woman but she refused." Impulse added, Grian laughed at the idea of the five of them together posing like the justice league in their pajamas.

"I gotta ask Scar to show me those when he gets home." Grian said with a chuckle, already imagining Scar in a flash suit. "We could invite Bdubs and unite!" Skizz said, holding his fist up in the air as he said the word "unite" it only made Grian laugh louder. "Without wonder woman," Impulse added.

"Yeah without wonder woman," Skizz said in a disappointed tone, he glanced over at Cleo a smile appeared on his face "Unlesssss-" he said, dragging the word out until he was interrupted by a stern "No!" From Cleo, the smile on Skizz' face disappeared again. "Hey Grian?" he asked, the smile reappearing.

"I'm not dressing up as wonder woman." he immediately said, already imagining himself in a bathing suit-like outfit. Laughter came from the room, Skizz shook his head as he tried to stop his own laughing "No, no, I mean we are also still looking for an aquaman."

"Ooooh, well as long as it doesn't have some stupid quote on it." he said, what kind of sleep related quote would even go with aqua man? "They are not stupid." Impulse said defensively. After that an argument started about whether or not the quotes were stupid, the argument soon turned into one about whether or not the pajamas were stupid.

Somewhere during it Grian's eyes started closing again and he let them.

"Grian? Grian?" were the first two words Grian heard when he was woken up. He opened his eyes and saw that Impulse was in front of him, shaking his shoulder. Grian groaned, he didn't want to wake up, he liked being asleep. "Come on Grian, you gotta wake up. I've got some soup for you." Impulse said, that is when the smell hit Grian, chicken soup.

Grian sat up, luckily the smell of soup wasn't making him nauseous. "I- thank you," Grian said, a tired smile on his face. Sitting up fully Grian looked around the room, the tv was still on and the three other people that had been in the room with him were still there with him.

Cleo was still sitting to his right, a laptop on her lap. Without his glasses or contacts Grian had no idea what she was doing, she could be playing a game, doing work or hacking into some kind of government agency. Although that last one could also just be work for her.

Skizz was laying next to Grian, it looked like Grian hadn't been the only one to fall asleep. Next to Skizz there was a clear spot of blankets where Impulse had been, but he had left to make some food for Grian. "Here you go, be careful it might still be a bit hot." Impulse warned.

"Thank you," Grian said again while he kept looking around the room. None of the others had food, he realized "Where is your food?" Grian asked, looking back at Impulse. "We ate a while ago, you slept for the whole morning Grian." Impulse said, the whole morning?

"Oh," Was all Grian could reply, he had really slept for that long? "We wanted to let you sleep, it seemed like you needed it. But you do still need to eat." Impulse said, Grian nodded and picked up the spoon. He began bringing small amounts of soup to his mouth, it tasted amazing.

"It's great Impulse." Grian said with a satisfied smile, Grian was ready to be sick for a while if it meant that he got to eat the soup more. "Thank you," Impulse said, returning back to his previous position on the couch next to Skizz, being careful not to wake the man.

Grian ate the soup while he watched whatever was on tv, he had no idea what was going on but it seemed interesting enough. After a while the soup was up and Grian placed the bowl onto the coffee table and laid back down. He sat there for a while in a sleep like daze, enjoying the silence. That silence was broken when the front door opened.

"Guys? Where are you all?" Scar said, Grian smiled as he heard his boyfriend's voice. He was finally home. "We're in here." Cleo answered, not looking away from their laptop. Scar came walking into the room a few seconds later, a big smile on his face until he noticed the blankets, pillows and eventually the sick Grian.

Grian took that time to look Scar over for any injuries. He didn't know much about the mission that Scar had gone onto, he didn't want to know any details. But there was always a big chance that Scar would get hurt. Today it looked like he was fine, no out sticking bones, no blood and he was walking normally.

"Hey, what's going on?" Scar asked, his voice immediately softer. "Grian isn't feeling too well." Impulse replied for Grian, Scar walked over to him, stepping out of his shoes and kneeling down next to Grian. "Are you okay?" he asked, his hand coming to brush through Grian's hair, his eyes full of concern.

"I'm fine, just a bit sick." he said, holding his arms out for Scar. "Come cuddle with me?" he asked, that moment he didn't care that he sounded like a whiny baby. He hadn't seen his boyfriend in days and was sick, he deserved some cuddles.

"Of course," Scar said, but he was stopped by Impulse saying "Wait!" Both Grian and Scar looked over at him, their looks asking him why in the world they would have to wait "Scar, put your flash pajama on so that we'll match." Impulse explained, motioning to his own pajama and Skizz'.

"Do you think you can wait a few more minutes?" Scar asked, Grian smiled "For that, yeah." he said, Scar pressed a kiss to his forehead before he walked out of the room. Just like he had said a few minutes later Scar returned wearing his flash outfit.

Whoever had designed it was less creative than whoever had designed the batman and superman suits. This flash suit was just a red long sleeve shirt with some pants. The shirt had a lighting bolt on it with the text "I'm the fastest sleeper alive". The pants were red but had some yellow lines on their sides.

"Beautiful," Grian said, a smirk on his face. Scar walked over him and sat down next to him before he pulled Grian into his arms. Immediately melting Grian closed his eyes, perfectly content now that his boyfriend was there.

"Grian agreed to being Aquaman." Impulse informed Scar, Scar started running his hands through Grian's hair, silencing his headache a little. "Oh, that's great. An extra member since someone didn't want to be our wonder woman." Scar said, Grian didn't have to see to know that the man was glaring at Cleo.

"It's stupid, Grian agrees with me." Cleo said, A gasp left Scar "Say that it's not true Grian, say that they're lying." Scar said dramatically, a chuckle escaping through the act he was putting on. "It is a bit dumb, and I only agreed if mine doesn't have a stupid quote on it." Grian said.

"I just looked it up, it says 'Swim, save the world, swim, sleep, repeat." Cleo said, Grian wanted to laugh at the stupid quote. It looked like the same person who had designed the flash suit had designed this one as well. "It's kind of cute," Scar said, apparently looking at a picture of it.

Grian didn't look up, there was no way that he was lifting his head from Scar's chest now. "It's got an orange long sleeved shirt made to look like it has gales. with Aquaman and that beautiful quote. Long pants that start with something that's supposed to look like a golden belt and besides that it's just light green." Cleo explained for Grian.

"Sounds amazing," Grian mumbled, the rest laughed. "You'll fit right in buddy" Impulse said, patting him on his shoulder a few times. Grian hummed, his eyes closing again. "How am I still tired? I slept for most of the day." Grian complained.

"Haha, you can go to sleep, Grian. Your body needs the rest to get better." Scar said, in the soft tone he only used with Grian. "But you're finally here." Grian complained, he wanted to talk with Scar. He wanted to ask about all the things that he had done, excluding the gory part.

"Go to sleep, Grian. I'll still be here when you wake up." Scar said, pressing a kiss to Grian's head. "Promise?" Grian asked, his eyes already closing. "Promise," Scar confirmed and that was the last thing Grian heard before he fell asleep.

Falling asleep next to three people dressed up in their superhero pajamas. It made it easy for Grian to forget that he was in a room with a few of the most dangerous serial killers in America. It was weird, knowing that the people around him had killed people, but for some reason Grian couldn't feel safer.

A few days later Grian was back to health after having spent a few days glued to the couch. Scar had kept his promise, not leaving Grian's side the entire time. They watched movies, talked and slept, a lot. A few more days after Grian had recovered a package arrived.

In the package was the aquaman suit that Cleo had ordered for Grian. Scar saw this and announced that it was time for a justice league sleepover. Scar, Impulse, Skizz, Bdubs and Grian all gathered in the living room, taking a spot on the couch in their beautiful pajamas.

Bdubs, just like Grian had been told, had a green lantern pajama. The pajama was, unsurprisingly, green. It had a short sleeved green thirst with the green lantern on it and the text "In the brightest day, in the blackest night… I will sleep" was written on it.

The pajama had some pants that were also green with the green lantern logo on it everywhere in black. Grian laughed at how stupid it all was, but he couldn't help but love it. It seemed like his illness had at least resulted in one good thing happening.

Later that night when all of them were asleep, Cleo sneaked into the room. A picture was taken and sent into the group chat, but the others didn't seem to mind so Grian decided that he didn't either.
