Looking the Other Way

Summary:

The two top agents of the FBI are sent to Gravesfield to investigate the claims by Jacob Hopkins.

Oneshot drabble.

Work Text:

In the FBI; there were 2 special agents that were the clean of the crop; dedicated to the spirit of justice rather than going by the book or 'falling in line' but they were quite feared by the corrupt influences in the agency. They had been police officers in Minneapolis and refused to look the other way to the police brutality, bribery, bullying and other abuses of power done by the officers or powerful politicians and individuals. It costed them their badges when they video taped the chief's son doing a horrible assault and then intervened.

Their record got the attention of the FBI who allowed them to clean up police departments in exchange for their services in sensitive cases. Investigations later and they personally led the storm into their old police department and dragged their former chief in handcuffs as he was shouting abuses and threats that he would never be able to act on. Those that knew these two were terrified of them.

Being told to investigate occurrences in Gravesfield, Connecticut; many reports and claims by the local conspiracy theorist that caused him to be blocked by the local police. There were actually some reports of weird stuff happening before then; like that Gravity Falls town as their superior told them.

"Jacob Hopkins; former museum curator of the Gravesfield Historical Society until he was fired for adding unauthorised exhibits. Frequents conspiracy theory forums and websites and involved with flat-Earther groups and caused an incident at an airport upon being told that his passport was out date when he was trying to go to Nigeria to try and track down 'the prince' that he had sent money to. Lists JFK and Anonymous amongst his favourite movies on social media and claims that they are amongst the best historical movies of all time." Agent Ingrid Third stated with a shake of her head reading the file; using her maiden name in her professional duty as they were travelling to Gravesfield.

"Seems that his reputation is for a good reason..." sighed her partner Agent Cornelius Fillmore; known as 'Fillmore' to all including his wife.

The claims of this guy were cantered on the family of a late teenager by the name of Luz Noceda; quite an imaginative and misunderstood individual as they were reading her school record. Seemed to be an outcast amongst her peers and it seemed that she was going to some university not on file.

The two were good at making themselves hidden as they investigated the Nocedas; Luz seemed to be a happy innocent person along with her sister Vee (her file only goes back a few years and said that she was adopted) and her mother. Some friends she was seen with including a girlfriend; they ended up finding Luz and a woman...

Flying on broomsticks?

"Disco..." whispered Fillmore as this woman 'Marilyn' was the one involved with various reported incidents before Hopkins decided to tank his local reputation.

"Come on Eda; we could be seen... We should just stick to the Isles for flying practice..." complained Luz as the woman cackled shaking her head.

"Come on Luz; live a little and besides... No one will see us here!" the woman called 'Eda' said as it did a double take from Ingrid and FIllmore as the voice was shockingly familiar.

"Folsom?" they thought at the same time as the two had known eachother since middle school and this woman sounded exactly like their old school principal. She had since retired and her old deputy principal was now the local super intendent.

They watched and gather more info about what was going on; enough to make an informed decision...

"What do you mean that you are not gonna do anything?" demanded Jacob upset; he looked so guilty when they had to question him about his claims and showed actual proof that they were government agents. Apparently when he first met Mrs Noceda; he fully believed her claims of being from the government without any evidence and they believed that he would be fooled so easily with everything else in his file.

"The Nocedas are perfectly innocent and we recommend that you leave them alone. Don't give yourself any more trouble." Ingrid retorted with a shake of her head as Jacob was beyond upset.

"You can't do this... You have to believe me... They are involved with the demons from Mars with snake monsters and pointy ears! They destroyed my reputation and I tried to rally the town against them! Be like the good ol' days!" snapped Jacob showing off a book about the local witch hunters and Fillmore then glared hard at him.

"These 'good ol' days' were nothing more than innocent people being victimized and hunted down. Given show trials and burned at the stake. Nothing good comes from acting as they did. You claim to be a history buff; well then you should know what they about those that don't learn from history!' harshly declared Fillmore to Jacob and then both of them left to go to their car and Jacob ran to them screaming.

Ingrid tempted to just run him over as he was banging against the front of the car; she just forced herself to reverse and turn around. "You remember that it's dinner with my Dad this Sunday?" Ingrid asked Fillmore and he smirked in response.

"Dinner with the in-law; how wonderful..." he replied; they both worked so well together that their superiors overlooked what it said about married couples being paired together.
