The cold winter air seemed to chill right through Adam’s clothes right to his very bones as he trudged through the snowy woods. The winter winds had picked up in pace and were blowing snow so hard through the trees that each time a flake brushed his cheek, it felt like the tiniest slice from the tiniest blade. It never hindered him of course, pain never bothered him much anyways, but that didn’t mean it wasn’t uncomfortable
The sun had long since slipped behind the surface of the horizon, plunging the world into an even colder darkness. Adam was wandering with no clear destination in sight, just wandering to find someplace to rest for the night. He wandered and wandered until he could no longer wander anymore. With no energy left in him, he sat down at the base of a large sprawling tree, the snow beneath him wetting his clothes and chilling him further
Adam did not have to worry about freezing; however, he could not die, therefore he had no reason to worry about falling asleep in the snow. He was something more than just a regular man. Created to be something far more. He was brought into this life by a selfish and arrogant man, one Adam had once loved with all of his being, he was all he had known. He was his everything. But the man quickly became cruel and hateful towards his own creation just for not becoming smart quickly enough. Lashing out for when he could only say one word, one word that meant everything to Adam. “Victor..”
Nowadays, Adam tried not to think back on those days too much, for they brought him far too much pain to remember them. That man was long gone now, far out of his life. But Adam would be lying to himself if he said he didn’t sometimes miss those times. The times when it first started out, when his creator was so kind and gentle with him. What had changed? Why did he come to hate him so? Adam never asked for this life, he never asked to be made and yet he was. And despite his non consensual creation, Adam still loved his creator like any child would love their father
Adam let out a shuttering breath, leaning his head back against the tree to look up at the night sky through the tree branches. The seemingly never ending snow seemed to ebb for the shortest time, the once needle like flakes now fell on his face like gentle kisses from the night sky itself
Up above the trees, the clouds parted to reveal the beautiful light of the moon, shining down on where he sat. It would be peaceful to Adam were it not for the fact that his very bones were aching from the cold. Just because he couldn’t die, didn’t mean that he couldn’t feel pain. Pain followed him everywhere he went, it was part of his very being, something he could never ever escape
Adam could feel his eyes growing heavy as exhaustion took over him. He would rest for a while and be on his feet again before anyone could find him. Yes, he just needed a little rest. Allowing his eyes to close, Adam retested his head back against the tree allowing sleep to take him. But before he could fully divulge in rest, something awoke him
A sound of something in the woods, something different from any animal he had heard. It was a voice, the voice of a person. At first, Adam scrambled to his feet, afraid it was another hunter with a gun, but he paused when the voice became clearer and almost…familiar?
“Adam! Adam, where are you?!” The voice called out, loud and commanding yet in a way gentle and comforting. It called to him over and over but Adam couldn’t bring himself to move, stuck at the base of the tree. As the voice drew closer and closer, he noticed that accompanied it was a light. A flickering orange light that came out of the darkness of the trees, a light that Adam knew well
“Sun. Sunlight. Warmth, sun is life.” The voice that he hazily remembered played in Adam’s head as the light and the voice drew closer and closer. As the darkness around the figure finally faded, Adam could finally see who it was that was calling to him, it had felt like his heart had stopped for all but a moment. “V-Victor?”
The man in question was standing a mere 20 or so feet away from him, clasped in his hand was a stick that contained a small bit of the sun on the end of it, lighting up the area around where he stood. When he made eye contact with Adam, a look of relief washed over him as he dropped the stick of sun and suddenly rushed over towards him
At first, Adam flinched, expecting Victor to grab him harshly, to drag him back to the tower to lock him away for good. But where he expected to be grabbed, he suddenly felt arms wrap around his middle, holding him close as a hand came to rest on the back of his head, effectively cradling him to Victor’s chest. “Oh my son, I have been looking everywhere for you. I thought I had lost you.” Victor whispered, his voice shuttering in fear and relief as he spoke
Adam was confused to say the least, this wasn’t the Victor he knew, at least not the latest version of him. There was a short time where he was like this, kind and caring, attentive. But that was for a very very short time and afterwards, he was cruel and calculating. So to see him suddenly revert back to how he was in the beginning, it was bizarre to Adam
“Victor?” Adam whispered, looking up at Victor as he pulled away. “Yes it is me, my darling. I’m here, Papa’s here.” Victor whispered back as he cupped Adam’s cheeks in his calloused palms before pulling him in to press a loving kiss to his forehead
As much as Adam wanted to fight this, to refuse to believe that this was the same Victor who had hurt him, beat him, and even tried to kill him, he couldn’t help but revel and melt into the affection he was being given. He couldn’t remember the last time he had been shown any sort of love or kindness like this. He had been alone for so long, so as much as he wanted to fight, his body just wouldn’t allow him to
“F-Father..” Adam croaked as tears began to roll down his scarred cheeks. “I’m here, and I am never leaving you again. You understand? I’m here, I will always be here. I will never leave you again.” Victor explained gently as he ran his thumbs over Adam’s cheek bones before leaning in again to press another kiss now to Adam’s cheek
Adam nodded slowly, keening into Victor’s delicate touch, soaking up each and every little affectionate gesture. “My boy, my precious boy.” Victor then cooed before proceeding to press kiss after kiss to Adam’s face, kissing his cheeks, his forehead, his eyes, his nose and neck. The silly gesture made his chest feel light as laughter began to bubble up in the back of his throat, Victor’s stubble tickling his face with each kiss
Adam could hear Victor’s chuckling as well with each kiss, delighting in eliciting the beautiful sound from deep within his son. Eventually, the kisses finally came to a stop before Victor cradled Adam back against his chest. “Rest now, Adam. When it is light we will go home together, you and I. As father and son.” He soothed as he ran a hand through Adam’s long hair, gently tugging out any knots that crossed his finger’s path
In that moment, Adam felt exhaustion rising up in him again as he let out a tired yawn, snuggling his face further into his father’s chest. “Rest now.” Victor’s voice whispered one last time as Adam felt the ghost of his lips press against his forehead one last time before finally allowing sleep to overtake him
When the light of the sun finally rose over the forest, Adam slowly woke up not to the warmth of Victor’s chest that he was expecting, but to the stinging cold of the snow on the side of his face. Sitting up slowly from where he lay, Adam observed the small clearing he was in. He was completely alone. No Victor anywhere in sight. The snow ahead of him didn’t house any foot prints except for his own, and the stick of Sun that Victor had carried when he found him, was nowhere to be seen
