To Convict a Creation

Summary:

Something is wrong.

A multiverse's creators have been banned from their own creations, rendered unable to even see their multiverse, much less control it. It was one of the creations-which, they don't know. But if the culprit escapes, or even manages to cross over into a different multiverse? Every creator could lose everything in this world.

You and several others have been chosen to find the culprit, as well as any accomplices who may know the secrets of how to permanently ban a creator. You have few limits on what you can do; surely, at least some of the others must know who did it. Lie, cheat, bribe, interrogate-do whatever you can to find them. There is only one guideline:

Don't kill them; don't destroy the multiverse. That wouldn't be fun, now, would it?

Find the culprit. Pass judgment. Protect yourself at all costs.

An interactive whodunnit fic!

Chapter 1: A/N (secretly important)

Chapter Text

Well, hello there!

So, you understand what you'll be doing, right?

..You don't? They didn't tell you this before you got here? Oh, come on, do I have to do everything around here? Ugh, whatever.

So, basically, some outcode figured out how to remove us from a multiverse, permanently. Those who were affected can't get back in, no matter what we try to do. They're just stuck. Normally, when something goes wrong in a multiverse, the resident creators are told to handle it, but..well, this is a special case, obviously. You've been chosen, alongside several other creators, to figure out who exactly managed to create this dangerous code, as well as make sure no one else with the knowledge of it slips through the cracks, either. The original creators do want their multiverse intact, though, so once you find the culprits, they'll be forced to undo their code and promptly replaced. As for punishment, uh, we'll figure that out later. For now, let's just focus on finding out who did this.

So, to make this easy on you, all the suspects have been rounded up and stripped of all their magic. They're pretty much at your mercy, so do whatever you have to do to get them to talk; they're awfully tight-lipped, at the moment..

But you'll be able to handle it; I'm sure of it! Hey, if nothing else works, just bribe them with junk; that works with Errors, right?

Well, whatever the case, just know: it has to be a coder who did it. That narrows down suspicion to the multiverse's coders and their close acquaintances. Since we know the story of this multiverse, we've gotten every coder and every close friend of said coders under the spotlight, which should make it easy; if they told anyone, that someone's got to be in the room!

Speaking of the room, it's actually more of a house with a small outdoor area—made quick, for convenience's sake. Everyone has their own separate room to give them a bit of privacy, and at the moment, they're just waiting for you.

As for your investigation, we want to get this over with soon, so you'll be able to conduct your investigations separately, but we've set up a hivemind script to let you see the proceedings of everyone else's interrogations. If someone makes a breakthrough, you'll know. Unless you leave and never come back, I guess, but why would you do that?

Well, whatever happens, I wish you the best of-

Oh. Oh, you're right! I forgot to introduce the suspects, didn't I? Well, let's get into that.

There are five individuals with code in this multiverse: Error, Ink, Core Frisk, Blue, and Cross. Blue and Cross aren't fluent in using code, but the rest are; it's far more likely that one of the first three did it, but we can't rule out anyone with code manipulation. Let's introduce them.

This multiverse is close to classic fgod, save for some personality tweaks and creative liberties. Error is the Destroyer of Worlds, and he's just as much of a manbaby as you'd expect. He likes chocolate, does some kind of sewing or something, and hates his job. He's close allies with Nightmare's gang, too. Honestly, I'm betting it's probably him. Errors tend to hate us, you know? Probably him..just saying.

Ink is the Protector. No universe creation in this one, just protection—he's kind of a chaotic neutral? He protects all universes from story-changing threats, even if it's a trauma-ridden nightmare (heh) of a plotline that's just angst incarnate. I doubt it's him. Unless he's trying to make his own story? Ooh, that might be an interesting motive..maybe it was him? I should save that idea for later..anyway! Soulless Ink, relies on paints, you know. Might try depriving him of them? I'm not sure if he reveres, fears, or is neutral to our existence, so maybe try to figure that out and plan around it? If he respects us, he might just tell us what we want to know! Though, he hasn't done that yet..

Core Frisk is kind of odd. They're in charge of the Omega Timeline, and they basically just preside over that. They don't tend to use their code magic for anything but expansions and repairs there. I doubt it was them; I just don't see a motive. They're an omnipresent kid with code magic who works to protect people, but did they even know about us before this event? I doubt it.

Blue is relatively new to coding. He was left in the Anti-Void long enough to suffer minor glitches, but not long enough to turn into a Blueberror. He glitches out occasionally, and very, very rarely does actually suffer crashes! It's a cool concept; I like it. Just wish it were in a tamer multiverse. According to the script, he's been glitched out for four years now, so he isn't totally new to being glitched; using crashes and glitches against him may not be too effective, with him being this used to those sensations. But that also means he's had four years to learn how to use his code powers; he's not new to them, and from what I know, he's had practice. He's nowhere near as good as the first three, but he can code, and it's not bad work. Also, he's a Star Sans (Ink is too I forgot to mention so sorry please don't tell my boss >_<). Keep an eye on him.

Cross is the last coder in the multiverse, and I'd say he's the least refined. He's always had limited coding ability, and he's never tried to hone it; I think he's afraid of the potential. He probably didn't do it; I doubt he could. Still, he has the ability, so he's not completely written off. He's a member of Nightmare's gang, and he's very loyal to Nightmare..which is a motive. If Nightmare had him do it, he certainly would, even if he himself had no incentive. If he did it, he was likely instructed to by Nightmare, so keep that in mind.

That's all the prime suspects. In addition to these five, there will also be the remaining members of the Star Sanses and Nightmare's gang present in the interrogation universe. Those are pretty self-explanatory, right? Don't need an introduction? Good. Just remember: they can't do anything to you, since their powers have been taken away; they can't ban you. So have fun.

And as a side note, if you get some sneaking suspicion that someone else is involved in this, just let us know; we can always bring other suspects in. Not that that'll be necessary, but..you never know. Just try not to do it unless you're sure; we'll have to erase the memories of all the innocents after this, and more memory erasure is just going to be more work.

So, is that all understood? Yeah? You-

What? You want..that? But this is an investigation, not-

Oh, fine. For you. Because you asked nicely. Here you go.

Headcanon list:

1. Figure it out idk this is your investigation not mine.

2. Ok whatever Blue can crash happy now?

3. No more. I'm not taking notes for you.
