    And then he’s gone, cursing under his breath, back to the kitchen, the kiss he’d pressed to the top point of Magnus’ jaw lingering in his wake. For a brief moment Magnus wonders if Alec will ever stop completely overhauling Magnus’ outlook on life with little more than a small gesture or few honest words, but then decides he wouldn’t want it any other way and magics the painting so it hangs facing their bed.

    (It takes Magnus far too long to realise where all the paintings Alec's been bringing home come from.)

    Magnus had known for days that something was going on with Alec; that he was working through something. So, it hadn’t been all that much of a surprise when Alec had come home saying they needed to talk. Well, not so much that they needed to talk, but more that Alec needed to tell him something.

    The last thing he’d been expecting was for Alec to flip open the box, exposing its contents; dozens of bound journals he recognised immediately. Truth be told he hasn’t thought about those journals in years.

    And Magnus’ stomach drops. Because it’s been, what… two? three? days since Magnus last saw his boyfriend and Alec looks destroyed. For a moment Magnus wondered if he’s missed something big happening but then his brain caught up and Magnus realised that Alec wasn’t injured and that he wasn’t just exhausted.

    It’s heartbreak –Alec is heartbroken– and Magnus’ head spun because he knows it’s because of him.
