“A Summary of the Biology and Culture of the Second Dimension Prior to the Euclydian Massacre” by Dr. Polly Gunafile, PhD by Bookwormgal

Summary
While studies of various ancient or even extinct species across the multiverse have been made by numerous paleoxenologists, those studies have been focused on intact dimensions. Even when individual planets are destroyed, it is still easier to find evidence and draw conclusions. The complete collapse and destruction of Dimension 2 (Euclydia) has made it difficult to properly understand the people who inhabited the dimension prior to their near extinction one trillion years ago.
This study will attempt to fill this gap in knowledge about the Euclydians before the extinction event. Drawing on secondary sources and less-detailed studies, comparing similar dimensions that still exist such as Dimension 2-D (Exwhylia), and extrapolating based on Bill Cipher while taking into account the established differences between him and the rest of his species, it is hoped that this study will provide a comprehensive overview of what the Euclydians might have been like.
It is not, despite what certain colleagues have claimed, proof that I find shape-people attractive. Just because my species has tentacles does not mean that we’re all kinky. This is purely scientific interest.

Summary
The wisdom of the ancient knowledge and the philosophy of the contemporary scientific knowledge converge and create open thought, the thought of open Wholeness. The core of the open thought is the cosmic consciousness. In every particle, atom, molecule, cell of matter the energy and the information of the cosmic spirit is concentrated. The history of the universal spirit and the spirit of the universal history of spirit unfold through time and in different places. They are history of transformation of our relationship with the world. The knowledge of the cosmic spirit is an unchanged structure, which is expressed in multiple forms in the evolutionary history of the universe.

NB: “atomsphere” is a pun not a typo; it's named this for a reason.
H. G. Wells, herein the young and starry-eyed nephew of Jules Verne, has of late taken to his head such notions as to beggar the mind. Fanciful, and some might even argue impious, he took to the concept of life on the scores of other worlds that sail the sun's aether shells and of travel between the worlds. Now sober-minded Uncle Jules has written to him, seeing the errant path that is his nephew's wont of late, and hoping thereby to return him to sound course and discourse.

If you're building a hardcore sci-fi world, it helps to know real world particles and how they relate to one another, so here's a quick primer walkthrough. Normally, the quarks, gluons, leptons, and gauge bosons are presented only slightly arranged, without overview of hadrons (these being left to tables of data); here we look at both the mesons and the baryons in a periodic array (essentially three dimensional [within the constraints of a 2D screen plus perceived Z-depth], though some cells' multiple contents could be construed as spin-like further dimensions).
Why? Because this provides a starting point for plausible particle decays, a working knowledge of which particle relates to another (quark content, charge, etc.). Adlibyons and ergogenic fields (just my own names) are no problem in pulp sci-fi (which I love), but not so great if you're ficcing on something from Forward, Benford, Egan, Metzger, Cramer, or Sheffield. If you can't tell proton from a delta, then this is a good spot to start from.

Ever read Sherlock Holmes or Doc Savage? We all know what makes sense (and what doesn't), and we might get it right or wrong, but can't always pin down just why. Sometimes it's the human element, and ethics demand that we go all-out to find someone who's lost in the woods; other times, it's less of a trolley car and more a simple chain of reasoning. This latter is much simpler to address, almost like 2+2 (mod ≥5), but often not encountered beyond truth tables in our 'teens, and even then discarded the moment that we're outside of the classroom.
What if I told you that it doesn't have to be boring and dry? That you might be able to use it to see what Sherlock Holmes could see?
For philosophy students: you might like the illustrations — they could really make your lives a lot easier.

Summary
Both the juice and the fruit were gone by week’s end. The water too, even though John has been drinking from the tap.
“What was the experiment?” John asks as Sherlock flops down on his lap and flexes his long toes into the arm of the sofa.
“Hmmmm?”
“The juice and pineapple that was “not for consumption.”
Sherlock dismissively waves a large hand then relaxes against John’s thighs, tenting his fingers under his chin. John rolls his eyes and flips on the telly, one hand resting on Sherlock’s flat belly, the other finding its way into his curls.Series
