    There was a silence between them shared for a while, a depth of loss and loneliness as they both remembered their parents.

    “Samuel,” John whispered to the solid mound of flesh underneath both of their hands. The silence was broken as she smirked slightly and shook her head, rolling her eyes with fondness and sadness and pinched the top of his hand.

    “And Deanna, if it’s a girl,” she reminded.

I simply sat back and stared in amazement at their interaction. The hatchling took one of Hiccup's arms in his mouth, chewing softly. I gasped, jumping forward to push him away, only to notice that the dragon had no teeth. "What the...toothless?" I murmured in confusion. I could've sworn the other baby dragon had teeth. This one tilted his head, glancing up at me with an expression that read, 'you seriously thought I was gonna bite him?' I relaxed with a chuckle, letting him do as he pleased. If anything, Hiccup was enjoying the hatchling's attention, and kicked his legs happily. "Well, Toothless, meet my son, Hiccup," I introduced with a grin."

    "Exile still seems the best option, Stoick..."

    Stoick should have known better. While he didn't know much about his son-especially now-he knew the boy was clever. It should have been no surprise when a guard burst into the Council Meeting and revealed that Hiccup had escaped the cell Stoick put him in...hours after the boy was revealed to have saddled a dragon.

    Hiccup is gone, and so is the beast.

    They search, but do not find him. Berk falls asleep one night and awakens in the Great Hall, where the torches come to life and cast an image of their isle on the wall, from which floats Hiccup's voice, years younger.

    AKA, Hiccup forfeited the final challenge, leaving Astrid with the right to kill the Nightmare. Story picks up in the Race to the Edge era, except Berk never learned the truth of dragons, no one knows how Hiccup really lost his leg, and stories of a hooded 'vigilante' riding a Night Fury have been long whispered...and Berk will see it all unfold.

    Stoick the Vast, under the advisement of his best friend, had intended to allow his son into dragon training with the other kids his age, but he allowed his son to speak first and decided to honor his wishes. Hiccup would not fight dragons, and as a result, fate moved slightly to the left.

    Hiccup would not use what he learned while befriending Toothless to move up the ranks in dragon training and gain the attention of the entire village and the ire of Astrid. Instead, he would slowly fade into the background until no one even realized when he was missing from the village for days or even weeks at a time.

    Most importantly, his connection to dragons wouldn't be exposed to the world for quite some time.

    Which worked out for him and Toothless as the two had a growing flock to protect and rule as the draconic Kings of the Wilderwest.
