They’re tired. This fight has been raging for years now with little to show for their efforts besides small setbacks and death, mainly on their side. Their numbers dwindle by the day and the ever looming shadows push them back further and further.
At this point, they’ll take just about any chance to fix this broken world.
It’s a good thing Kurama is good at multi-tasking, because he’s got a world to save, a team to keep whole and a promise to keep if he has anything to say about it.

So it doesn't take her long after being placed on the powder keg that is Team Seven to realize she is going to die.
Kakashi, career shinobi since age-six, has no idea what the hell is going on with his little pink-haired student or why there is such fear in her eyes. So he gives her head-pats. That's what you do for scared puppies isn't it?

Hatake Kakashi is a man who never wanted a genin team in the first place. And he certainly wasn’t prepared to actually care about the brats.
Unfortunately for him, his brats are hilarious and kind and amazing. And they’re so small, and they’re alone and they need support. Which makes it really hard to truly dislike them as much as he expected he would.
Or: 5 times Kakashi shows that he actually genuinely cares about his kids, and 1 time his students show that they care about him a lot, too.
