"A second chance,“ Death said.
Harry stopped in front of a bench and turned to look at the being. "A second chance at what?"
"Life."
Harry laughed bitterly. "Because that has worked out so great the first time?"
Death tilted its head. "You've changed," it stated.
"Life does that to you," Harry said and his mind felt clearer than ever, "Or should I say the last seven years. I never really left this place, have I? I lived a life feeling not quite dead and not alive either," he spat.
"I know how you feel," Death said after a moment, grinning.
"Oh, do you," Harry retorted and pierced Death with a look.
The being's smirk widened as it leaned closer.
"Bored."
Years after the war, Harry Potter lives an apathetic life. When Death offers him a second chance he takes it.
Accompanied by the being, Harry travels back to the summer before Sirius dies. Inside his younger body and the memories of an older self, Harry realizes that being connected to Death may have twisted his morals a little more than expected.
Seeking to make up for the boredom of past years, Harry isn't above carving his own space between two sides to even out the playing field.

And so came it to pass that Durin the Deathless, First of Dwarrow-kind, the Eldest of the Seven Fathers, King of Khazad-dûm, found himself unrelentingly bound to a small chunk of blue stone pocketed by one Belladonna Took on her journey home from a well accomplished adventure.
Years, and multiple adventures later, Belladonna Took – by then Belladonna Baggins – settled into Bag End, and gave birth to a child named Bilbo Baggins, to whom this stone was always meant to belong.
It is with this one small Hobbit that the ghostly Durin is to change the tides of Middle Earth, save his legacy, and rewrite this unwritten history before them.
Additionally/And/Or: In which Durin the Deathless does not accept the finality of his lineage and submits his complaints to Mahal and Yavanna.
Becoming glued to a rock and a Hobbit was not part of his request, but he was Too Vague and forgot to Read the Fine Print.
Also, Hobbits are far too endearing even to Ancient Mostly Dead Monarchs.
Finally, and most importantly, to any Dwarf asking, it isn't technically breaking any rules if the ghost beside you works as a translator for super secret Dwarvish languages.

But it's not all rock and roll: somewhere along the way he's finally succeeded in annoying someone to the point of actively trying to kill him. After a chance encounter at an inn, Ciri takes the liberty of signing Geralt up as temporary bodyguard. But, what with the lingering hurt feelings from their last fight and the issue of Jaskier's new trousers, this might prove a harder task than ever before...
"It’s… well, it’s definitely Jaskier. It’s also a shirt that’s missing half of its buttons and a stomping roiling beat that Geralt has never heard before. Above all it’s some of the most obscenely raunchy lyrics that Geralt has ever heard, delivered in a tone so dripping in sex that Geralt feels a sudden urge to cover Ciri’s ears.
“You meet a lot of interesting people,” Ciri says mildly as onstage, Jaskier does something complicated using mainly his hips. It should be embarrassing but Geralt finds himself watching intently and that’s when Jaskier finally looks up and sees him through the crowd. "

He scowls and finishes his ale. “One room is fine.” He’s learned to pick his battles and right now his shoulder is still stinging from the injury he got earlier. One battle today was more than enough.

Geralt is too emotionally stunted to realize that Jaskier trying to pamper him is Jaskier telling him he loves him. Instead, he ends up worrying that Jaskier is going to end up missing all the fancy things like regular baths and beds and end up leaving him. Not that Geralt loves him or anything.

Jaskier wants to laugh because of course he knows who Geralt is, but the look of despair on Geralt’s face is too much and the words tumble recklessly from his mouth.
“Of course I know who he is! He’s the White Wolf – Geralt the mighty Witcher, savior of dangerous witches and bards who overstay their welcome.”

It had been seven months since Geralt had last seen Jaskier. Seven months since the mountain, seven months since he’d hurled those terrible words at the bard that he’d immediately regretted but been too fucking proud and angry to take back, damn him.
He’d hoped Jaskier wouldn’t actually leave. But he did, of course; Geralt had looked away in grief-stricken fury and closed his eyes and when he’d turned back around again the bard was gone.
So that had been that.
Geralt didn’t expect to ever see Jaskier again.

He kneaded at Geralt’s back until it was soft and pliant, and Geralt was making these short little huffed breaths. But Geralt didn’t once ask him to stop, even when Jaskier had gone over the same section of scar tissue three times, so Jaskier took matters into his own hands and leaned back.
“Right.” He said, bright and cheery. “That should be you all done. All nice and … squishy.”
Geralt twisted his head on the pillow and glared at him.
“What?” Jaskier asked.
Geralt set his jaw and turned back around, mulish.
Geralt isn't very good at asking for what he wants, or even understanding his wants for that matter. Luckily, Jaskier is hell-bent on finding out what pleases Geralt for himself. Even if he doesn't realise they both want the same thing.

Summary
Despite what his outward code of conduct would have you thinking, Jaskier knows when he is not wanted.
He allows himself the exact amount of three days of wallowing in that small town before he packs his meager possessions and hits the road like nothing happened. In those three days he sings and dances for his food and drink, fucks the pretty barmaid and sleeps off the hangover before heading out in the morning of the fourth day. He travels alone for the first time in a while but it’s alright.
Now, if only people would stop telling him that the Witcher asks about him - that'd be swell.
