Comment on Five Things Julie Bozza Said

  1. Thank you for all your work in fandom, before and with AO3, like you I’ve been enjoying fanfic, fanzines and fandom for more years than I care to reveal! I have a fondness for the old Australian fanzines as Susan Clarke and Joanne Keating were among the first to ever accept submissions from me for their zines Down Under Express and B7 The Otherside.

They also accepted poetry from me which at the time a lot of fans thought was a slightly underhand way of getting a free contributor’s copy. That didn’t stop me writing poetry even though it’s one of the less popular forms of fanfic.

Its a bit late to say this but I really like and still enjoy reading your fanzines Homosapien and Espresso. The quality of the writing in them is superb.

I have a large collection of fanzines, letterzines and newsletters. Which I eventually want to donate somewhere for safe keeping and other fans enjoyment. So, it’s a relief that when I can bear to part from them, that I know where to start looking for a new home for them.

    1. Hello, Joxie! Thank you so much for getting in touch. As you may be aware, I started out with Susan and Joanne, too - with my first published fic (including poetry!) in their zines, and their fanzine publishing workshop held at a national convention (was it at Hawkesbury Agricultural College?) prompting me to give it a try myself.

Thank you so much for your kind words about Homosapien and Espresso. I was very proud of what we created, and it's good to know they stand the test of time. You probably saw that we are importing the Homosapien Press zines, on an opt-in basis for creators. Which has been a fascinating experience!

It's wonderful to hear about your collection of fannish creativity, too! We'll look forward to helping you find that new home for them, for sure.

Thanks again for your kind comment. ♥

      regards, Julie
