Comment on Every Pearl Is A Star Above

  1. ANON!!!!1! I am deceased. I cannot believe that this fandom, which I didn't think exist anywhere except in my head before the month of August in the year of our lord 2023, now has THREE PIECES OF FIC in it, including a casefic so fucking wonderful I want to force everyone I know to list to the radio show just so that they can then read and properly appreciate what you've created.

First and most importantly, THANK YOU. This is everything for which I never dared to hope, from the incredible characterizations to the flawless Walter!voice to a case and environment that would fit perfectly into Raymond Chandler's PI world(s). The way you've so gracefully blended the light tone of Pearls are a Nuisance with the romanticism ("I hadn't seen him in a year and I knew he was lying to me about something. It didn't matter. He was cutting through the fog in my brain like a lighthouse guiding a broken down ship to safety"!?!?!? GOD.) and beautiful brutality (everything about him getting knocked out, and then trying to recover from it) of Marlowe's is astonishing, I'm genuinely in awe of everything you've done here. Did I mention THANK YOU?

Things I love, in no particular order:

•Henry being so sure of who he is, and so determined to make sure Walter sees him, too. (HENRY. <3)
•The perfect mix in Walter of dry humor and casual misery — I know I said this above, but god you nailed him. (He's also a character that perfectly suits Allyn Joslyn, so it's extra-fun for him to be your Walter in my head.)
    •Henry's glow-up and Walter's response to it.
•How casually queer the community is — how it's all always been there, but Walter just didn't know how to look, or even that he could.
•ELLEN LOWKEY MVP KNOWING WALTER BETTER THAN WALTER KNOWS HIMSELF. (Or, at least, is willing to admit he knows himself.)

I'm bad at grabbing chunks of text upon which to comment, in part because the whole damn thing has made me so ridiculously giddy, but these are a few of my favorite lines, mostly Henry being perfectly Henry:

A knife wrapped in silk, that was Ellen ...

“Worried about me?” My lips curled, which felt good, though it didn't last.

I may be an intruder but I am a gentleman.

It was actually sensible. Never try to draw blood on your own when lawyers are so much more efficient at it. I've learned that lesson quite painfully.

“You're doing nothing.” Her fingers drummed on my desk. “And while you normally do nothing, Walter, you at least to do it with some sort of panache.”

TL;DR: THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU! I cannot image the time that went into this, and I'm grateful for every second of it. You've made me so happy, Anon!
