Description:

The stories can be read in any order. I've got a pocketful of change is the happy one. And I don't want to go home yet is the sad one. Choose accordingly.

Notes:

After I saw the New York Theatre Workshop production of Hadestown, I started wondering whether Hades and Persephone were right to see parallels between their own relationship and Orpheus and Eurydice's—which implies that, even if Eurydice had successfully gotten out of Hadestown, she and Orpheus would still have been locked in a similar cycle of endless conflict—or if they could have found their way to a happy future together after all. This idea collided in my head with another Anaïs Mitchell song, "Old-Fashioned Hat," as a possible version of that future. That's I've got a pocketful of change. And I don't want to go home yet is the tragic mirror image.
