Summary
“D’you realize,” [Crowley] said, “that we never tire of things humans get bored with on the regular?”
Aziraphale shrugged, lazily basking. “I’ve always assumed it’s that we don’t tire of each other.”

“Reckon I got it wrong the first time,” Ligur replies. “I thought you was a girl.”

Summary
The two men remained engaged in avid conversation as Rashid approached with menus in hand.
“All escaped pets? That’s not true of the present population,” said the dark-haired one in even darker sunglasses. “They’re quite common in the city now. I heard about it on Radio 4.”
“You’re trying to tell me they breed year ’round, even in the cold?” said the one who seemed slightly older, on account of the greying blond hair and outmoded formal ensemble.
“Pardon,” Rashid said, setting a menu in front of each of them. “I couldn’t help but overhear. Are you referring to the ring-necked parakeets amok in Her Majesty’s parks?”
“Sharp man,” said the one in sunglasses, flashing a smile that made Rashid feel vaguely uneasy.

Summary
Aziraphale grimaced at the looping script and shoved it back at [Crowley]. “That’s where I’m headed.”
The parchment sizzled to ash in Crowley’s palm. “That’s not all I know. That Maharal fellow’s on his way out. Er, whatsisface—Rabbi Loew?”
“Then what are you doing here?” Aziraphale blurted, bewildered at Crowley’s presence. Upstanding religious leaders merited monitoring, but rarely by the other side. “I’m meant to…” He bit his tongue, wondering how much he ought to censor. “Follow up on an accomplishment he’s rumored to have, er, accomplished. See to it there’s no unfinished business surrounding…that.”
“What am I doing here?” Crowley snapped, growing agitated. “To find out how he bloody well did it, preferably before the breath leaves his body. D’you think I like watching humans die?”

Summary
Aziraphale got up, grabbed his dressing gown, and rushed to the living room. The sight on the sofa broke his heart as it had done many times before, as it always would. The better half of his heart never had been built for grief.
“It’s the fourteenth century redux,” Crowley whispered as Aziraphale turned off BBC News, barely restraining his tears. “I don’t want to do this. I don’t want another plague without a cure, I don’t—“
“Crowley, please,” Aziraphale said, draping the dressing down around Crowley, folding him in an embrace that, to any mortal, would be crushing.
“Please what? Stop watching? Stop doomscrolling? Even you do that, angel. I just, we’ve—we’ve lost—“
“Hush. Too many,” Aziraphale agreed, stubbornly resisting his own despair.
[Given that my CoT main series ends in 2017 as far as the internal timeline of the story, this is where I'll occasionally drop new B-side ficlets that move forward in time from that point. The pandemic era has opened complications and opportunities worth exploring.]
