Summary
In a world where your soul takes the shape of an animal and people find their soulmates by their souls seeking out another animal that matches them, Kakashi is certain he was never meant for another or that he lost his soulmate long ago. Maybe under falling rocks during a failed mission, or maybe by his own hand just a few weeks later.
In the same world, the seal binding a tailed beast to its vessel will bind the soul as well, leaving the Jinchūriki soulless. It's alright though. Naruto is used to being alone.

Naruto had never been sick before, but he had heard enough of it from his friends that he knew that waking up with an aching throat and coughing meant some sort of cold. The flowers came as a surprise. So did the rapidly growing vines that limited his breathing, ripped open his throat on a daily basis, and would kill him in a few days. Unless, of course, he could figure out who he loved in time, confess and have them love him back.

After the war, there was a technological boom. Internet got more widespread, Shinobi were given smartphones (and older, encrypted phones for when they're out on missions), social media started to become a terrifying beast, gossip magazines started to rank the hottest shinobi in the world and Kakashi found the glory of Icha-Icha fanfiction and dog videos.
As Naruto returns to Konoha after a boring mission, he finds himself in an article in Teen Leaf - Konoha's newest magazine for teens. People want to know who he's dating and stuff like that. It's strange. It's annoying.
He also learns that Kakashi has been asked to narrate a very special audiobook.
Well, at least he'll have something nice to listen to each evening.

It wasn't that strange then that after the world was saved he'd join some friends for drinks. They'd almost died. The world could have ended. He'd thought he'd lose Sakura, Sai and Naruto. That he'd sent them to his death.
He'd only have a drink or two. What's the worst that could happen?

As Naruto has recently lost his dominant hand, Tsunade gets him to start writing as a way to get used to only having a left hand. He can't expect the very busy Rokudaime to come along and feed him each day, now can he?
Partly to spite her and partly to honour his beloved Ero-sennin, he starts writing on the next volume of Icha Icha. It's actually going somewhat well. But then he starts to realise that he keeps writing the main character, the suave and mysterious Kaikane, in a way that makes him really familiar.
It doesn't make him any less confused when a charming and handsome reporter comes to interview the Saviour of the World. Sukea is also reminding him of someone, but he can't quite figure it out.

After Kakashi is made Hokage, a civilian lord from the Land of Fire reaches out to Konoha about a trade deal. As a proof of goodwill, he’d like Kakashi to show up without any shinobi guard. After the entire world being threatened his people are understandably nervous around the ninja.
It is suggested that Kakashi has a guard with him under the guise of being Kakashi’s civilian wife. It's harder than expected to find a kunoichi who can pass as a civilian.
Thankfully, they have a powerful shinobi who is skilled with the Transformation Technique.
In which Naruto ends up having to pretend to be Kakashi's wife for a mission.
