Summary
Fives tilted his head this way and that, checking his reflection in the computer’s waiting screen. Feeling a little ridiculous, he rubbed at the edges of his hair. The first thing he and Jesse ever did when getting back from a long mission was get sheared, a full shave for Jesse and a regulation high-and-tight for Fives. He wished that the call was a little later, a few days, maybe, his hair always looked so weird the first week after a chop, sticking up in odd places.
The loading symbol on the computer screen changed to an establishing-your-connection screen. Remember, this video call will be monitored to protect clandestine material. Your call may be canceled at any time per your monitor’s discretion.
Show time.
Abroad in the military, Fives gets a video call to meet his little sister.

Summary
Not that Fives was jealous about the awful first few weeks Omega’s custody got torn away from her mother, Nala Se, but the stories he got from Wrecker and Echo made him wish he could have that unstructured time. No work, no school, just afternoons hanging out and making sure his little sister knew he loved her.
In the time it’d taken for him to get discharged from the military, and back over to the Republic, so much had already changed. In dark moments, it was easy to feel like he’d missed out, having to compete with all the rest of Omega’s life for her attention.
An idea hit. “How about this,” he said. “We walk back the long way, grab some ice cream, and you let me hang around and annoy you while you do your homework.”
Fives walks Omega home from school.

Summary
Calling it a ‘date’ was perhaps a little generous— nearly a year back in civilian life and he’d yet to do any ‘dating’ that didn’t start and end with a hookup app and a happy ending. This was no different. He’d spent a good hour swiping, messaging, assuring women that he wasn’t going to send them a dick pic unless they asked (and even then, only if they did so nicely), and finally he’d found one with a free night and a taste for his profile pictures.
They met at Cid’s bar, had a drink each (he paid, with his employee discount, avoiding Cid’s lascivious, smug grin), and Fives agreed to drive them both back to her place. Neatly handled, Fives’s blood and mood were high as his date wasted no time and pounced as soon as her apartment door was closed behind them.
Fives's date night gets interrupted.

Summary
“Go ahead and open it,” Ninety-nine urged, eyes shining.
Wrecker didn’t need telling twice. He ripped open the present and a stuffed animal fell into his hands. Big and overstuffed, it was covered in black and red material, flannel maybe, beaten to a velvety softness. Big drooping ears made him think of a rabbit, but the stuffing made them stick straight up like horns; red velvet eyes looked calmly up at him.
He stood there, silent, unsure what to do or say. Something in his chest was twisting, tight and hard.
“Made that for you this afternoon,” Ninety-nine’s voice sounded very far away. “Made her special, too; nice and big for ya.”
How Wrecker got Lula.

Summary
After so many years, Ninety-nine had no affection left for Jango. Such a thing stung, naturally, as some part of Ninety-nine’s very being seemed hardwired to see the best in everyone, family especially. He’d even defended Jango to Echo and Fives a few times when they were pre-teens, reminding them that their father had a difficult childhood, that he was struggling with a lot.
It was the providence of the quadruplets that started to erode his excuses. Firstly, that Jango had never, not once, cared to mention the agreement he’d made with Nala Se about fathering her children--Ninety-nine had been as shocked as anything when the four boys first arrived on his doorstep, looking for shelter. Jango himself didn’t even consider it fathering, the first time Ninety-nine got him on the phone about it, a week after the four young boys's custody had gotten signed over to him—he’d scoffed and corrected him that he was a sperm donor, nothing more.
Ninety-nine reflects on Jango, fatherhood, and his sons.

Summary
Tech rolled his eyes, but his hands moved of their own accord and pulled the toy closer. It really was soft, knappy and almost velvet-like.
“I do not need a stuffed animal,” he said to the thing’s face. It stared back, unaffected.
Tech hugged the plush animal to his chest, and the resistant spring of the stuffing against his arms—that was very nice. Comforting, somehow, like it felt to stand close to Ninety-nine. He loosened his arms and squeezed Lula again, testing, and yes, somehow, a bit of tension left his system as the stuffie squished against his chest.
Three times Wrecker let his brothers borrow Lula.

Summary
Shahane’s answer surprised him. “Anniversary!”
Fives chilled down the temperature a deliberate notch. He leaned back, pushing a little at Shahane’s shoulders to get a good look at his face in the dim club interior, colorful lights flashing across what looked like an open, earnest expression.
Fives wasn’t stupid. He knew what Shahane dancing up on him was a precursor for. But the admission threw him for a loop. “Your boyfriend good with it?” he asked.
Shahane juked his head in a funny little motion. “Girlfriend,” he corrected. Not a real answer to Fives’s question. Fives cranked up a brow, and Shahane continued. “She’s here, too. Celebrating. With me… if that’s cool with you.”
Oh. Oh.
Fives gets very lucky with a very nice couple.

Summary
In the kitchen, Omega was flitting around, grabbing stuff from cabinets. He grabbed her as she passed, reeling her in for a big smacking kiss on the top of the head. “Hey, kiddo.” With a ruffle for her blonde mop, he released her and sat down at the kitchen table. “What’s the mission?”
“We’re doing a cultural heritage party in my geography class tomorrow, since it’s a half-day,” she reported, dumping a final armful of supplies down onto the table. She gestured, smartly. “So I’m making uj’alayi cake.”
Fives helps Omega make an old Mandalorian recipe.

Summary
Fives didn’t remember putting the car in park, or cutting the engine. One second he was sitting in the driver’s seat, and the next second he was standing on the bleached-bone line of the curb, watching as Rex walked numbly across the lawn towards the front door—
Because those were Rex’s clothes. And Rex’s books. And his cassette player.
Rex stooped down and picked something up. He stood, holding his first place soccer trophy in two hands—the gold figurine at the top snapped off at the ankle from colliding with the front driveway.
How Rex and Cody moved in with Ninety-nine.

Summary
Fives watched as the scaly gray blur of the city grew closer and more distinct through the airplane window; blurry swamps of cement and black asphalt sprouted trees and lampposts, bodies of cars slid and moved over and past each other. It was afternoon in Ord Mantell, bright and golden, and after seven years of active duty service, Fives was almost home.
Fives finally returns home, but finds himself struggling to reintegrate with family he hasn't seen in years, who have already had time to adjust to life after the military. Feeling left behind, he fights to find a place for himself, and heals long-open wounds along the way.

“Here.” Fives thumbed Omega some bills. “Go grab the sodas, I’ll get in line.”
“Okay!” Omega took the money and bounded off, into the corner under the big stucco overhang that was the front of Neth’s Cantina, the best Mandalorian restaurant in town—or at least the one still doing things the old-fashioned way, which in their household’s opinion, made it the best.
Fives and Omega get stuck in a blackout while picking up dinner.

Summary
When Hunter started to feel sick, he kept it to himself. Tech noticed, and Crosshair, too, and on the second day of aches and body shudders, Wrecker caught on.
“Y’should tell Ninety-nine,” Wrecker said, frowning in concern.
Hunter knew that the old man wouldn’t do anything to him. Wouldn’t do anything their mother would do to him if he got sick. But. The thought of staying alone in the house with Ninety-nine during the day, while all his brothers were on their own at school, made Hunter’s stomach swoop worse than the nausea.
“I’m fine,” Hunter told Wrecker. “Leave it.”
Frowning, Wrecker did.
Two times Ninety-nine took care of Hunter, ten years apart.

Summary
Just as he was considering imposing himself on some random woman to go in for him and call Omega’s name, Rafa appeared—only she had a weird, serious look to her face, and Omega wasn’t with her. Fives straightened up from the wall, instantly on edge. “What—”
“She’s fine,” Rafa assured him, quickly. She made a short gesture. “Give me your jacket.”
“What?” Fives frowned, fought the urge to try and crane his head to look over her shoulder into the bathroom. “What’s wrong?
“You’re not listening,” Rafa hissed, and made a second, harder gesture. “Jacket. Now.”
Fives and Rafa help Omega out in a potentially embarrassing moment.

Summary
Stalling a little, Fives hesitated. He remembered to remove his shoes before walking further into the house. He paused and peeked into the living room, and understood Hunter’s shutdown of his loud entrance.
Wrecker was stretched out on the couch, still in his work clothes. Canvas trousers, stained with paint and debris, and a rough-cotton long-sleeved henley, similarly hard-used. The big man was, well, too big for the couch, really, one leg and arm left dangling, the back cushions of the couch removed and left to the floor to leave more room for his broad shoulders. It was clear that Wrecker was asleep, his head turned just so, the only half of his face visible netted with scar tissue.
The thing that pulled Fives up short was that Omega was there, too, cuddled up half across Wrecker’s chest, her head pillowed on the hollow of his shoulder, Wrecker’s other hand splayed across her back. Her eyes were gently closed, one cheek smushed, mouth a little open.
Fives reflects on his learned resistance to physical affection.

Summary
Option one was to wait and not say anything—maybe Hunter would notice on his own, or Echo and Tech would get back from the library and take on the personal risk of bringing it up with Hunter. Fives had a keen sense of self-protection, and he knew that even though it wasn’t his fault, pointing out the gum stuck in Hunter’s wild mane would get him nothing but grief.
Option two, was, of course, the right thing to do, since it wouldn’t do Hunter any good to let the gum stay in his hair and dry up even more than it probably already was. And with everyone but them out of the house, Fives was the only messenger Hunter had.
Fives helps Hunter with his hair.

Grainy texture bloomed across the screen as the tape started to run. Somehow both bright and washed out, the color of the sky was warm and yellow—the summer of ‘87 was a record one in Mandalore, Fives knew, and it was like he could feel the heat through the screen as the recorded sports television station began coverage of the annual National Football Cup.
Fives and Rex have Omega and the family over to marathon some classic Mandalorian soccer games.

Summary
Fox loved and hated that old chestnut about the frog in boiling water. Toss a frog in a pot already bubbling and it would leap out. Put the frog in cold water and slowly raise the temperature, and it would be dead before it even registered the heat.
If pressed, before it all happened and he finally woke up, he would say that no way he’d ever be in that position. He was too smart, saw too much, already knew from afar what it looked like when a victim fooled themselves into smiling through the bruises. He’d be the frog that figured it out, that called foul, that managed to slip the noose.
There was no such thing as a clever-enough frog, Fox understood now.
Commander Fox Fett, formerly of the Coruscant Guard, now leads a substructure search and retrieval team, rescuing anyone unlucky enough to wander into the maze of Coruscant's undercity, or unlucky enough to choose it over what waits for them on the surface. When a missing subject is a young girl, Fox must confront his own past in order to lead her back into the light, and hopefully, a better future.

Summary
Riyo Chuchi was the youngest senator Pantora ever sent to Coruscant. At twenty-one years old, she was a decorated graduate of the Junior Senator Program, with two years of experience under her belt as an advanced aid within the Pantoran Assembly. She did it all, the magazines and articles back home happily displayed: she was studying law, she was on several committees that sported other laudables like Bail Organa and Padme Amidala, she supported the arts, she kept to herself without scandal.
On the morning of her twenty-second birthday, she came to the chilling realization that she was losing her hair.
A series of firsts for Riyo Chuchi and Fox Fett.

Tech careened into the room, skidding a little as he came to a stop at the landline phone. Without acknowledging Crosshair he picked up the receiver and dialed. Three numbers.
“What’s wrong?” Crosshair demanded, dread immediately seizing him.
“Ninety-nine fell in the yard,” was all Tech said, and then snapped his attention to the phone. “I need an ambulance…”
Crosshair accompanies Ninety-nine on an unplanned trip to the hospital, the day before Life Day.
