Summary
The ramp dropped down, and the Batch descended. Tech and Crosshair came out first, their argument continuing without a hitch as they dodged Alpha and Obi-Wan. Wrecker came down next, his exuberance making the ramp buckle and bounce. Finally, Hunter exited with their Commander, and Obi-Wan got his first look at Cody.
Immediately, he was confused. Commander Cody looked like a…what did the Batch call them? Ah yes: Commander Cody looked like a “reg.” The only thing that made him different from the so-called “standard clone” was the scar curved around his left eye. Otherwise, he looked like someone had taken one of the Two-Twelfth and dropped them into the Batch’s red and gray armor.

Cody saw the exact moment Rex’s sense of smell was restored because Rex’s eyes widened and he took one step back.
Obi-Wan turned to him, his scent pile mixing into fear-confusion-love. “Rex?”
“He smells like us,” he whispered. Then, he shook his head. “No, not like us, but close.” He finally met his Guide’s eyes, his own still wide and unblinking. “But he does smell like ours.”

Summary
After not too long, they’d decided Rex and Cody would move into Obi-Wan’s quarters at the Temple and they’d see where things went. Even better, Rex and Obi-Wan had bonded over the course of the war, sharing trauma and exasperation over Anakin alike. They’d decided on their own to spend some time just the two of them when they could to see if that friendship could deepen.
Now, a little more than six months after that conversation, Cody’s life was easier and more comfortable than he’d ever believed possible. In fact, there was only one thing he still wanted.

His hands shook as he pulled out the small box from where he’d hidden it in the back of his desk drawer. Just a tenday ago, Alpha had come to Coruscant so he could be present when the Bill was signed, and he’d wordlessly pressed the box into Cody’s hand when they’d had a moment alone. He hadn’t opened it until today.
Sitting in the box were three pairs of earrings: one blue, one purple, and one pink. He looked at them, confirmed his current thought pattern, and took out the blue ones. He put them both in and could feel himself relax immediately. He thought about putting the others in his pocket just in case, but ultimately left them on his desk.
After so long as “he,” it would probably take a while until anything else felt safe.
