"Ava’s hands immediately found their way to the back of her head, lifting it up slightly so that she could pull out all of Beatrice’s hair from underneath, and let it fan across the pillow and her legs. Even just that felt nice – Beatrice didn’t know why she had agreed to this, didn’t know why she thought she could do it, that she could find something that made both her and Ava happy. Ava had barely touched her neck and she was already starting to come undone. She was about to come up with an excuse to get out of it, but then Ava ran her fingers through Beatrice’s hair from the top to the bottom and she changed her mind.
“Thanks for letting me do this,” Ava said as she pulled her hands out of Beatrice’s hair, tapping both of Beatrice’s cheeks happily.
“Yeah,” Beatrice said, her voice hardly carrying in the space between them. “No worries.”"

"Ava was sure that if she asked Beatrice what she was doing, why she was doing this, she would break the safe, comforting aura of the room – friends could kiss each other, yeah. JC and his friends did all the time and swore that they meant nothing by it. Ava wasn’t entirely sure that Beatrice would mean nothing by it – she was a rather serious, restrained person. And she loved that about Bea. They balanced each other out. And it also worked in her favour of hoping that Beatrice did mean something with the intermittent, gentle, seemingly innocent kisses across her scars and planes of her back – whether she genuinely just saw Ava as a friend, or Ava’s feelings were returned but Beatrice wasn’t ready to talk about them yet, the actions carried a level of care and love and intimacy that Ava previously thought she would never again receive in this life, and that meant a lot to Ava.
Beatrice was the first one to break the silence again.
“This scar,” Beatrice whispered, her voice slightly raspy. “It looks like Perseus, the constellation.”"
