Summary
Steve had never planned on becoming a firefighter. Like so many other things in his life, he’d just sort of…fallen into it.
After Steve's life fell apart in the big city, he returns to his home town to try and get his life back on track. He didn't expect to fall in love with Eddie Munson along the way.

“They don’t like me,” Steve grumbled, but Eddie shook his head.
“Just give them a minute. Most people haven’t been kind to them. They look at them, and they just see some…annoying pest, and so they treat them like shit.” Eddie cleared his throat before speaking again. “Here, try again. Just…hold your hand like this.”
Eddie took Steve’s wrist gently, his fingers five small points of warmth on otherwise cold skin. Steve sucked in a breath as Eddie leant closer to him, feeling the puff of the man’s breath over his cheek while he guided their hands forward towards Mabel.

Eddie spends his evenings feeding the raccoons out the back of the fire station. Steve joins him.
