Title inspired by After the War by Young GunsThe Archangel Michael chose to stay. When he chose to stay, he was known as Steve. When the angel Matthew fell, he fell because he loved humanity and broke an oath to protect it. As Matthew works to get back into heaven and Steve works on Earth to protect humanity, their paths cross.
(In which all of the Avengers except for Tony are some form of angel or demon and I am shipper trash. This fic is snapshots leading up to Steve and Matt meeting, which is why it's tagged pre Steve/Matt)

Steve is the Archangel Michael: Prince of the Heavenly Host, Warrior Angel of Heaven. He decided to stay on earth, protecting its people as Captain America. Sometimes, he still does his other job too, his job of answering the prayers of those in need of some divine intervention.
This is a one shot in the Simply Calling Out Sins universe. You don't need to read the first piece in the series to understand it, it also doesn't mention the Matt Murdock/Steve Rogers ship that exists in this universe.

Matthew is a Fallen and Steve is an Archangel so they inherently shouldn't get along. However, as they run into each other time and time again, they can't help but begrudgingly become friends (and then, perhaps, develop feelings and a desire for something more).
