Summary
You don’t know how long you spend drifting in and out of consciousness. Perhaps it was only a few hours, long enough for you to be moved onto a bed and made comfortable. Perhaps it was a few days, days spent tossing and turning in fitful memories-turned-nightmares.
What you do know is that when you finally manage to retain consciousness, you do not recognize your surroundings. You sit up slowly, careful not to overexert yourself, and glance around the room. It’s rather plain; no decorations or color to be found anywhere. You don’t think anyone had been in here for a long time before putting you here.
Your abdomen aches underneath its carapace.

Summary
Your name is the WANING VICTIM and, while you’re nearly recovered from your encounter with the demon, you still bear one gaping wound from your death. The hole torn through your Rag of Souls haunts you. If it is not repaired soon, the fraying edges will grow impossible to resolve. You will lose it. Forever.
And yet, instead of asking the heroes who may be able to help, you have spent the past few days rebuilding Can Town. The more rambunctious heroes seem to enjoy it, and-- and despite your needs, you know that the day of their Arrival was just as horrifying for them as it was for you. You’ve been telling yourself that rebuilding Can Town was for them, too, to give them a chance to play and create without worry or stress.
Today, though, the conflicting conversations and loud voices were too much for you to handle. You can not work on Can Town, not while the heroes are there, and so you have no excuse not to be here.

Summary
Your name is the WISTFUL VENTURER and you have been integrating yourself into the company of the heroes quite well. In the weeks since you asked the hero Kanaya to fix your Rag of Souls, you have been able to relax into your work on the meteor. It is comforting, to take emptied cans and other discarded materials and create a new world out of them. The heroes seem to agree, as several of them have spent a fair amount of time working on Can Town alongside you.
For today, you work alone. Though, given the area you are working on, maybe that is not a bad thing. As you step back to see it from a distance, you can’t help but notice that the courthouse is made up of primarily golden-yellow cans.
The heroes would not understand the significance of this, you do not think. Would not understand why these three buildings are so central to the town you are developing. You do not think they would insist on changing the layout, as they have thus far been very respectful of Can Town as your project, but they would not understand the details of it all.

Summary
You pull a pan from the oven with gloved hands, careful and methodical in your movements. You have spent the past hour working on this meal, and can not afford for it to be lost at the last minute. Though you can easily recover the ingredients with the heroes’ alchemizing, you do not have the time to cook it once again if you are to have the heroes fed at a reasonable time.
You have already had several complaints about how long this meal has taken to cook, though you are fairly certain they were the sort of complaint that the heroes do not truly mean. It has taken you quite a while to understand the difference between their complaints, and you are still not perfect at identifying what kind of complaint they are putting forth, but you believe that the lack of yelling and constant nagging means they were not truly complaining.
In either case, your name is the WARWEARY VILLEIN, and you have made a wonderful pumpkin pot pie.

Summary
Your name is the WORLDLY VETERAN, and you know, to some degree, what memories this dream bubble is built from. You recognize the ground beneath you as your Skaia, not the Skaia of the session that came before yours. The specifics of who remembers it like this are lost to you, given the endless expanse of doomed timelines that could have contributed, but it is nonetheless a figment of your home.
There’s something nice about being here again. Despite everything, you have always loved the checkerboard of grass and ferns at your feet, have always adored the rolling hills and infinite skyline, have always loved Skaia and everything she had to offer.
You pause, for a moment, to take it all in.
--
OR: The Worldly Veteran explores a version of Skaia seen in the memories of one of the dead heroes along with the heroes Dave and Karkat, before stumbling across a scene he'd rather had been left forgotten.

Summary
Nobody has seen the hero Karkat since the dream bubble.
He was not your most frequent visitor before it all. That honor, of course, goes to the hero Dave and his many hours spent under your watch. Usually, though, where the hero Dave goes so too does the hero Karkat.
Today, after one too many days without his familiar too-brash yells, you have put Can Town aside. It’s been long enough that a worry has seeped into your heart.
Your name is the WAYWARD VAGABOND, and you refuse to let the hero Karkat isolate himself any longer. You know, all too well, how that isolation hurts. He has the option of being surrounded by his peers, unlike your time in exile, and you will not let him forget this truth.
—
OR: The Wayward Vagabond and the hero Karkat finally talk about leadership and the losses that come with it.
Note: This fic, moreso than any other one-shot in this series, assumes knowledge of the previous fic. It can be read as stand-alone, but some parts will be confusing if you have not read No Secret’s Safe Forever. A brief summary is included in the opening notes.
