Summary
Rook thinks he's alone with the crushing, agonising fear of death that has haunted his every step. Until he meets Emmrich.
Perhaps they both embrace living instead.
A (mostly) canon compliant look at the Rook/Emmrich romance if they both shared the same fear of death. Rating and yearning to go up and up and up.

Summary
The oscillations of the fade flex, and Rook turns around. He looks directly at Emmrich. Emmrich can’t tell if Rook is registering how they’re posed, not at this distance, but he freezes guiltily. The reason why is beyond him, but it looks as though Rook hasn’t noticed.
Down in the courtyard, Rook raises the hand holding the stave in a hello, smiling at Emmrich. Emmrich raises his hand in return, suddenly feeling rather shy. Even as Rook slowly lowers his hand he keeps looking up, the fade-light falling on his face and softening it.
And how strange, with their hands still over their hearts.
--
Emmrich considers what he and Rook may have in common. At length.

Summary
Solas’s smile grows wider. “The spirits of the Fade have always spoken very highly of him. They say he can coax life within what is long dead.”
And then his look turns truly shit-eating.
“Tell me, Rook - does he make you feel alive?”
Solas wakes Rook from a...compromising dream about Emmrich. But hey, at least Varric's there to make him feel better about it.
A continuation of Against the Dying of the Light, where both Rook and Emmrich struggle with a fear of death.

Summary
With a final gesture, Emmrich rings the bell to close out the ceremony. When its peels fade, he takes in a breath, and looks around. “When did you first realise you were frightened by the thought of dying, Rook?”
Even though he was barely moving to begin with, Rook freezes. His expression is wide-eyed, with mouth slightly parted. He stares at Emmrich as though he’s been caught in the act of something unspeakably monstrous, and doesn’t know how to react.
Emmrich finally gets Rook to visit him in the Necropolis Gardens. All the conversations that happen there are very illuminating indeed.
A continuation of Against the Dying of the Light, where both Rook and Emmrich struggle with a fear of death.
