“Easy,” a voice—rough, low, familiar—cut through the morning buzz like a blade through silk.Her gaze lifted.
And the ground beneath her gave out entirely.“Sarah,” Connor's voice wrapped around her name like a memory — low, roughened by exhaustion and years, but unmistakable.
She froze. Words catching in her throat like glass.His hand lingered at her elbow. His eyes — impossibly blue, impossibly steady — swept over her face like he was re-learning it.
She should say something. Move in some capacity. Reclaim the space. But her body remembered him before her mind caught up — the weight of those eyes, the heat of his hands, the quiet gravity that always pulled her toward him when she should’ve run.
“Dr. Rhodes,” she managed, breath catching at the edges.
OR Sarah Reese is brought back to Gaffney in Season 10, and Connor Rhodes is back in her life with it and enough history to drown them both.

Sarah Reese walked the halls like a ghost in pressed cotton.
Hair slicked back. Coat tailored. Shoes whispering against tile. Her badge said "Doctor," but her silhouette suggested something else entirely—sleek, pale, clinical. Something carved from restraint. Something that had learnt not to flinch anymore.
And somewhere—behind the doors, beneath the hum of ventilators and the mechanical breath of machines—a man waited.
A man made of the same cold matter as the walls. Robert Haywood.
Her father.
He sat upright in the cardiac room like it was a throne. Tubes webbed his arms. The monitors around him blinked, pulsing data like a quiet war drum. And yet, he smiled—like he’d been expecting her. "Sarah,"
She remained silent—in fear that this man would destroy her, again. As if he hadn't done enough damage when he first abandonded her.

The gym at Gaffney was almost sterile at midnight—humming lights, the sharp tang of sweat, metal, and sterilized rubber matting. Only the sound of her breath broke the silence. Sarah Reese’s fingers curled around the pull-up bar, her palms slick, face flushed and arms shaking with the strain of her fourth set. Sweat trickled down her temple, grip starting to slip
"Come on," she whispered to herself, determined. One more. Just one—
“Didn’t peg you for the type who likes to suffer alone.” The voice slipped behind her like heat.
She dropped with a sharp exhale, her shoes slapping the mat. Turned instinctively to the baritone the masculine voice carried. He was already watching her.
Connor Rhodes leaned against the wall, dark joggers resting snuggly against his hips, Gaffney sweatshirt fitted against the expanse of his chest with the sleeves rolled to the elbows. A glint of sweat still clung to the edge of his jaw like he’d just scrubbed out of the OR. His smirk, lazy. Dangerous.
OR Connor Rhodes catches Sarah Reese mid-work out on the pull-up bar and helps her. With her legs wrapped around his waist.

The ED was humming with late-shift fatigue when Sharon Goodwin’s heels struck the tile like a warning bell. She was moving fast—shoulders squared, voice tight.
The call had hit like a silent bomb.
The matriarch of Gaffney General, collapsed into the nurse’s station, her face drained of all colour, eyes fixed on those lingering; the cell phone pressed tightly to her ear until she hung up.
Around her, monitors beeped. Patients moved. Life carried on. But her expression made everything slow to a crawl.
Then came her voice—measured, but hoarse.
“Jay says it’s Sarah. She’s in the store.” The words were soft, like she didn’t want them to exist. Like saying them too loudly might make them real.
The room fractured instantly.
Will Halstead shot up from the trauma desk so fast his chair skidded and slammed into the wall. “Wait—what?”
Ethan’s jaw clenched. “In what store?”April stopped mid-charting, eyes wide. Natalie nearly dropped the tablet in her hands. Maggie muttered a prayer under her breath.
Sharon’s gaze didn’t waver. “Corner of 51st and Halstead. The hostage situation that is being televised. Jay just confirmed—Sarah’s inside.”

As I stood next to Hank, the Sergeant of intelligence, I couldn't help but feel a sense of security washed over me. Hank was known for getting what he wanted, and if anyone dared to wrong him in any way, they were risking their own life. Despite his tough exterior, Hank had a softer side that he only showed to me. His touch was gentle, his words were kind, and he always made sure to keep me safe on the job. During cases, he would pull me close, and after shootings, he would check me for injuries before anyone else. It was strange, but I didn't mind it. I felt like I had found a solid foundation in a world that was constantly changing.
