Venom Snake awakened on February, 1984, a hero.
Big Boss died on February, 1995, a villain.
A decayed shell of his former self.(MGSV promised the story of Big Boss’ downfall. The trailers were set in a way that made it seem that we would see how the greatest hero of the 20th century became the deplorable man we face in the original two games. We got this, in a sense, with Naked Snake, and how he allowed Venom Snake to be manipulated into becoming his Phantom. However, this seems to have made Venom into a sympathetic figure - an unsung hero who was trapped in an unwinnable situation. This may have been true when he awakened, but the Big Boss we meet in 1995 is a very different man than the one we played as in 1984. This fic aims to bridge the gap between these two men - to see how a hero might fall - to see how a snake might decay.)
