Shortly after the events of the series, Alex and Ryland have a quiet evening together for the first time in a while. While talking about both of their short lived/failed attempts at romances with women at the party before Blood Match, neither gets why the other didn't go for the hot women pursuing them. Both see each other as all they need, although that's less of a conscious realization for Ryland (he's so repressed.) Through all of this they don't even see themselves acting like a couple. Someone tell them. Someone has to tell them.
