But Hans grabbed the cup of wine from a side table, and put it to his lips. The red liquid felt numb on his tongue. He heard his own voice then he reached for the handle and the bolt. “I requested that you stand next to me during the ceremony, tomorrow. Can you do that?” he hated how cold he sounded. Why wasn’t he able to say - I need you to be there with me. Otherwise, I will drown –But there was no answer. His friend- his partner- was rarely at a loss for words.
Finally, he managed to take a glance back over his shoulder, but Henry didn’t look at him. He stood tall, closed the weapon belt around himself, gripped his sword and looked out of the window, although there was nothing in the pitch black sky to look at.
Henry breathed audibly. “If it’s the last thing I do.”

"It's not like people stop needing horseshoes and nails during the summer," Henry says, sounding entirely too reasonable for a man standing next to what is basically an oven, as decrepit as the rest of this Devil's tavern. His gaze is downturned, focused on whatever metal is taking shape on top the anvil. His hammer falls mercilessly even as he speaks, an endless clang, clang, clang.

Capon snatches Henry's shirt before the distance between them can grow, a strong grip, oddly desperate, one that clings and commands and claims him, and in the marrow of his bones Henry responds with a red-mist howl because yes, he gets it, yes: I'm not done yet. I'm not fucking done yet.

Birds have woken up and started to chirp their morning songs. The rain finally slows, drops clinging to leaves and odd blade of grass before they drip lazily to the ground. Hans wants to strangle the nobleman in front of him.

A few days had passed since the Italian Court Robbery and the theft of the silver, and the air at Suchdol Fortress was thick with a whirlwind of emotions—triumph, exhilaration, and, most notably, a haze of drunken revelry. Cheers and shouts echoed across the courtyard as the soldiers reveled in their victory.
The atmosphere mirrored the excitement inside the hall room—laughter and merriment filled the air, mingling with the scent of food and the clink of mugs. The anti-Sigismund forces celebrated their triumph with abandon, their spirits high and their faces lit with grins and joy. The group gathered around the table, and Hans and Henry sat next to each other, laughing and chatting as usual. But something felt off to Henry as he glanced at the young lord. Was it the booze? The exhilaration from their successful mission? Or was it the way Hans, tipsy, gazed at him with an intensity that made Henry’s pulse quicken? That look... it reminded him of the one Hans had given him years ago when they shared a bath. -
