“I know I’m supposed to be sad. I’m supposed to cry, so I do.” Buck’s head falls, and he wipes a row of tears from his cheek. “But I don’t feel it."
His emotions—or lack thereof—surrounding his father’s death are concerning. Buck usually feels so much all at once. Even as a kid, he was never known to repress his anger. He’s irrational and chaotic. He acts out of turn, not afraid to defend himself.
To sit here completely numb, it makes him question how much humanity remains after being compressed by so much trauma. He didn’t come out the other side a stronger person; it hollowed him out.
