His suspicions are confirmed when he catches the wicked glint in his husband’s eyes and he sighs internally. Eddie always was a possessive bastard (in the most affectionate way possible). “I’m Staff Sergeant Eddie Diaz, Buck’s husband.”
The not-so-casual drop of his title, combined with the fact that he’s still dressed in his combat uniform (well, t-shirt and trousers but it’s enough) shouldn’t be as hot as Buck finds it but, hey, he’s a simple man.

Summary
In many terms of the word Edmundo Diaz was a king. Sure, he’d hurt a lot of people to get to his throne but anything worth doing required a lot of blood letting and boy did he love doing that. The problem with being king was that it was so hard to find a loyal queen. Men and women had thrown themselves at his feet for affection and the only one who had managed to get his name had turned out to be undercover.
He’d given up to be honest, content with his little prince, but then his hijo and abuela get kidnapped by a couple fools and he ends up stumbling upon Buck. Darling little Buck who had just turned eighteen and wanted so desperately to please anyone who would turn his way.
His abuela thought Buck adorable, his tía approved of Buck completely and his hijo loved Buck to bits for saving them. But the best bit, the bit that draws Edmundo in the most was that poor little Buck had no idea who he was, he had gotten right into his car with only a smile from his hijo to guide him.
In the back of his mind he’s looking forward to the look on little Buck’s face when he realises that he is Edmundo's now and that he's not going to let him go.

Summary
Years before joining the 118, Buck’s travels take him to El Paso, where he meets Christopher. When Eddie comes back from Afghanistan and Shannon leaves, Buck ends up staying. As bills pile up, the best move is for them to get married, just for convenience, they’ll divorce when Eddie comes back from his re-enlistment.
Then Eddie gets injured and it’s just easier to stay married for a little longer, while Buck gets started at the 118. However, Buck doesn’t mention his ‘husband’ and kid, not feeling like they’re his to keep. When Eddie gets the offer from Bobby, they decide to lie and pretend they don’t know each other, so they can work together.
The whole lie gets out of hand as feelings start to become real, until it all comes to a head in the aftermath of the fire engine explosion.
AKA: Secret marriage of convenience buddie slow burn AU, where Buck and Eddie have been married for years so Buck could adopt Chris and no one at the 118 knows.

"Did she... did you see her get up?" Eddie asked, gripping the chair arm a little too tight. "Did she swim to to safety?"
"No," Christopher wailed. "She didn't come back to me! She didn't come back! I couldn't see her."
No. No, absolutely not. She is Evi Buckley. She survived a ladder truck bombing. She survived a tracheotomy. She survived a pulmonary embolism. She does not die in a wave.
"Dad?" Christopher was looking at him, terrified. "Is Bucky dead?"
