Jakub couldn't believe the ghost he was seeing. Thirty-one years. Thirty-one godforsaken years of fighting for survival. Thirty-one years of wondering if he'd ever see her face again. Three decades that she'd been frozen in time and he'd been ravaged by it. Paine in name and pain in goddamn nature, but hell! Jakub had missed her. It didn't matter that she'd come back into his life Altered. All he cared about was that she was really back, and that seeing her wasn't just some fever dream of his dying mind.

Mostly they just turn you to ash or other ash-like specks, sometimes they give you strange powers, and this time one such storm sends a certain Outrider careening through reality to arrive at...another world entirely. A random oneshot I came up with when i noticed that the game Outriders calls your character an Outrider, same as Amber's position in the Knights being an Outrider. Outrider, outrider...out...uh, losing meaning. Enjoy the fic, please.
