Gavin was stupid.
No, he was more than stupid. He was an idiot.
While it certainly wasn’t the first time that Gavin ran off without his partner, being locked in a freezer was definitely something new. I mean hey, not a bad idea for the murderer, pretty creative actually. But for Gavin, it was less than ideal.
