That doesn't stop him from spilling his guts anyway and avoiding the ensuing conversation by diving headfirst into the mindscape to save his baby sister, and maybe find Max along the way. But Will isn't going to let him get away with a confession that easily. AKA Mike is clocked by more than one person in the midst of the apocalypse and figures he might as well go for broke.

He was the ultimate life form, the one being with the strength to resist the Black Arms' control. But in this moment, Shadow felt a stark vulnerability unlike any he'd known before. The sky pulsed with another wave of crimson as the structures in the distance finished coalescing. “I am inevitable. You are nothing.” Doom's voice echoed, and Shadow screamed, agony seizing his body, as something darker took hold of him.

Mike was so lost in this idea, that he didn’t notice the vines creeping towards them. He didn’t notice it snaking around Will’s ankle. He didn’t see the way it moved up to his back, settling just near the center of the boy’s stomach.

Ford has been trying to convince Stan to let him into his mind ever since they made up. He just wants to make sure there isn't some kind of huge hole in his head from the memory gun or maybe Bill hiding in the cracks left behind.
He doesn't want to poke through his mind for things that happened while they were apart! Ford would never do that... at least he would never tell Stan if he did.
But instead of a free walk into his brother's mind, he is forced to watch memories click themselves into place without help. He is forced to watch their childhood from Stan's perspective, and it does not match what he remembers.
