This one is written from a first person perspective of both Adrian and Fa'Lina. We see some insights and thoughts into the first few days of a strange new arrival staying at the Academy and what effects they may have and how the headmistress deals with the problems that may arise.
This part splits between Adrian and Fa'Lina's viewpoints, already one incident occurs with Adrian and members of one of the more combative clans. From this it reminds the headmistress how much she must stress that Adrian is not what he appears to be to other residents.
Later on Adrian finds himself in his first class and discovers more about Furrae than he bargained for, all the while making friends with two of the more laid back students at SAIA.

May 16, 2008 - In the span of a single day, Amal calls off his arranged marriage, comes out to his conservative parents, promptly gets disowned, goes on a bender... and wakes up the next morning to find TJ, a lanky, dreadlocked vagrant, frying eggs and singing Paul Simon in his kitchen.
TJ claims that the two have made a drunken pact to drive all the way from Berkeley to Providence. As it happens, Amal promised his sister he'd be there for her graduation from Brown University. And TJ, well... TJ has his own reasons.
The agreement is simple: Amal does the driving; TJ pays the way - but a 3500 mile journey leaves plenty of time for things to get complicated.

Since TJ and Amal came up in #rec-discussion, I want to recommend Drop Out, which is my other favorite gay road trip comic (is that a genre?). It's probably darker than TJ and Amal, with frank discussion of mental illness, suicide, drugs, and probably more. But its just, very affecting, and the art can be so achingly beautiful it's just the perfect style for the story I think (I wish they hadn't hand-written the speech bubbles though...).

this my other favorite that I compare to FMA a lot, mostly b/c people trying to analyze FMA-alchemy scientifically makes me think longingly of Pymary, lol. What starts as the somewhat silly adventures of a bratty thief and her reluctant zombie bodyguard spirals into a complex and compelling high-fantasy epic. There's so much to explore in the vast worldbuilding, magic system, conlanging, but the story is amazing even if you don't want to fall down that rabbit whole with us most rabid fans :stuck_out_tongue: [edit: content warning for gore, child death, nudity]
