    Summary

Will is never found. But… well, he’s not alone. Because when Mike steps off the cliff, he’s gone into the Upside Down too.

Time is different in the Upside Down.

And it makes things very, very strange when, four years after Will and Mike disappeared and five years after the Upside Down became a recurring evil part of everyone’s lives, the Party finds those two boys on a crawl. And they’re still twelve years old.

“That was weird, right?” Mike says and is immediately hit in the arm by Lucas, hard.

“Mike, are you serious?” Lucas is glaring at him and Mike’s sure a lot of the others are, too.

“Not like that, Jesus! I mean, the shit he said about what we liked doing. Getting milkshakes from Melvald’s? Getting lost in the woods?” He asks incredulously.

    Summary

(...) "you pick a place to hide, anywhere at all. Think of one.”
At his prompting, Mike thought for a minute. If he was asked for a place to hide…well he couldn’t think of anything but his basement. Still air, soft blankets. El.
    Mike’s eyes burned.

    “Yeah okay, I picked one.”

“Alright, then I ask some questions. Try to find you. You only give me yes or no answers.”

Mike shifted in his seat, “Okay.”

“The idea is to delve in where your brain goes when it wants to hide,” he explained, “what it finds safe, familiar or innovative.”

    --------

Something clicked in Mike’s brain, like he suddenly remembered the answer to a test.

    “I’m not hiding.”

He said before he could stop himself. Dustin’s arms tightened around him, before he pushed Mike away, just enough that he could look at him in confusion.
Mike blinked, mind suddenly clearer, what was he saying-

“I’m not hiding, I’m looking for something.”

    -------

In which Mike Wheeler fights his way to a happy ending.

    Summary

The storm over Mike’s head brews. The gray clouds darken to black as if something’s burning—but there’s no smoke. The ground trembles beneath him, quaking with anger. Overhead, a tornado forms, churning in the sky.

More than one—a dozen, maybe more—tornadoes form all at once. Mike lets out a cry, not sure if it’s rain or tears streaming down his cheeks. The downpour grows heavier, blurring everything into gray, while the earth shakes harder beneath him. More tornados spin into existence. Strangely, it feels like a weight is being lifted from his shoulders, as if this storm—no, this disaster—is somehow soothing.

Or after season 2, with the heightened/extreme stress and the pores from the tunnels. Mike awakens his powers, being the first mutant on Earth in X–Men terminology. This can be a fix–it or some kind for the next season maybe…

    Summary

He remembers, eyes squeezed shut against the swell of nausea and vertigo that claws through him, being not-quite-thirteen, and listening eagerly to Mr. Clarke explain the science behind dreams.

“Dreams,” he’d said, “are often seen as these sacred experiences, something that has to have a deeper meaning. We have centuries of examples of dream interpretation, the art of examining commonalities between different dreams to find a single interpretation.”

“The thing is,” he’d continued, “dreams are just your brain’s way of processing and regurgitating information; a fruit-salad of information, so-to-speak. Sure, it can mean something, but it’s more likely to be a random grab-bag of facts and feelings that you’ve come across in life.”

A fruit-salad of information. Here, in the dark bathroom at a little past three in the morning, Mike breathes carefully, and tries to dissect where the supposed ingredients of his fucked-up dream salad actually came from.

    Or:

Vecna is weak. Injured. He's still strong enough to hit the Party where it hurts.
