“Am I just anybody?” Loid murmurs from behind, suddenly revealing himself to be much closer, though her never-ceasing awareness of his body-heat had betrayed that already. The retort’s still in line with whatever other teasing remarks they’d been exchanging, but the lighthearted atmosphere falls quickly. Something more heady and serious permeates the air now.
“I only meant, it's very boring.” Yor says, hand trembling in the air with her knife still gripped in its center, vice tight. “You wouldn’t find it… I mean..”
Unexpectedly, Loid takes her hand in his. He pries the knife from her grip with very little effort at all, mostly due to the strength of her grip failing when met with his own. When he sets it down, he doesn't let her hand go.

In his falter, he smashed into a warmth—another body. It was a woman, her slim figure tripping as it made contact with his compact chest. She was falling, a soft gasp breaking from her crimson stained lips as she lost her footing.
Only Gray was there. His reflexes kicked in, and he used his free hand to catch her glass of champagne without a single drop spilling out. His other encircled the small of her waist, muscles flexing through the sleeve of his blazer as he held her weight off the ground with an almost graceful ease.
𝘠𝘰𝘶. Gray almost said, recognizing the red brunette of her hair and the gold of her skin, her deep red dress burning against his navy blue suit. The woman from earlier. The scarlet stranger.

Yor met a guy, and a simple lie had spiraled until she was married to him and playing mother to his child. They were both using one another, but his reason was so much more admirable. What he was trying to protect was so much more sacred.
Yor was a killer and a liar. Living side by side a good man like she was a good woman who might’ve made a good wife.
It wasn’t a life that would last, but like the stupid, foolish girl she seemed to be at the end of things, no matter how capable she grew, no matter how many she killed, she let herself get…attached.

Or, in an AU where Carmen left VILE two years early (at 15 rather than 17), she's at a gala in Barcelona on the hunt for a priceless painting before VILE can get anywhere close. To pull that off, she has to perfectly time her movements around the event's top-notch security detail. Piece of Cake. Except for that pesky waiter that keeps getting in her way.

Summary
It starts with a simple tip for a simple heist, but what should've been an easy in-and-out goes explosively wrong. In a night, all of Ekko's friends die and the closest thing the Lanes have to a leader does too. The cataclysm of events that follow can hardly be named. Zaun falls to shambles, raped of all hope for a better future as the chem-gangs reassert their rule and shimmer rots its veins under the heel of one man, Silco, the Baron of the Barons. And Ekko has to watch it go down knowing its his fault.
But then, a lifeline: Powder, whom he thought had died in the fire with the others, is alive. Ekko's first instinct is to fight tooth and nail to save her. But she's different, too. She goes by Jinx now, & she's not waiting to be rescued. Instead, the girl he once considered his best friend is nothing like she once was, and, worse, she has aligned herself with the enemy. She refuses to go with him, but Ekko refuses to back down. Even if he gives up on trying to bring Powder back, he won't let Jinx win. Seven years is a long time to hate somebody. Truth is, there's a lot more to it than just that.

Summary
One can only lose their best friend so many times before they start... Slipping.
Six months after the defeat of V.I.L.E., former operatives start dropping like flies left and right—victims of a gun slinging maniac. When Carmen catches wind of these murders, she reaches out to her best friend in hopes of finding and stopping this mysterious killer. However, things aren't quite as they appear. As happy as Player may seem to help her, something about him isn't quite right.
Player isn't one to keep secrets from Carmen, but some things are more important than the truth. He's on a mission to protect her, and that is all that matters. He does what he does for a reason, and Carmen doesn't need to be any the wiser.
What she doesn't know won't kill her.
