    Summary

Across the Imperium, empires rise and fall in the face of war, alliances, and conquest.

Daphne Lumerien, a princess of an ancient royal line, finds herself at the center of these games of power when her father sends her away to the distant sovereign world of Caladan with the intention of securing an alliance with House Atreides through marriage.

Hell-bent on changing her stars, will Daphne find that there is more than one way to find a life full of passion and freedom?

Leto Atreides is guided by the simple, but essential, principles of justice and duty. He is fair. He is kind. And he is honor bound to strengthen the position of his House. Following much grief and loss, in his life, Leto clings to honor and resolves to take Lady Daphne Lumerien into his home, into his legacy... and, perhaps, into his heart?

Can the steely certainty of honor and duty withstand the fiery forge of love?

    Summary

For decades, the Imperium believed Glossu Rabban to be exactly what he appeared: the Beast of House Harkonnen—brutal, witless, useful only as a weapon. The Bene Gesserit dismissed him. The Baron underestimated him. Even the Emperor never looked twice.

    They were all wrong.

Behind the mask of savagery, Rabban has been playing a longer game—one measured in logistics, miscalculations, and carefully placed failures. While House Harkonnen tightens its grip on Arrakis, Rabban quietly weakens it from within, feeding fragments of truth to Duke Leto Atreides and forging secret alliances among the Fremen. His ultimate goal: the destruction of his own house.

At the center of it all stands Gurney Halleck—once a slave in the mines of Giedi Prime, trained in secret by the very man who owned him. Their love, hidden beneath strategy and war, survives across planets and decades. It speaks in battlefield formations, in smuggled supplies, in songs sung by soldiers who never understand the code within the melody.

When the Imperium finally collapses around Arrakis, the truth comes too late for those who misjudged the Beast.

Because love, like strategy, is only invisible to those who refuse to see it

    Summary

"Mama's dying!" Paul's entire body heaved as he sobbed. "She's been poisoned!"

Poison? When would she have been poisoned? A trained Sister of the Bene Gesserit could identify a poison within her body, slow her metabolism to stymie its effects, and then neutralize it—all within seconds! All without anyone else knowing what had occurred! She would teach the skill to Paul when he was old enough. But his statement now bewildered her just as much as it clearly bewildered Leto, who gave her a searching look, as though attempting to see if there were truly toxins flowing in her bloodstream.

Jessica cupped either side of Paul's face with her hands. "I haven't been poisoned, Paul. I'm perfectly fine! Look at me—don't I seem well?"

Their son rubbed at his eyes with a chubby fist. "But you—you ate the blackberries without testing them with the poison-snooper."

Pre-canon, Jessica POV. Paul misinterprets his lesson about poison-snoopers.

    Summary

Jessica has found that the thought processes of a child are much more difficult to parse than those of an adult. The leaps in logic, the enduring belief in fantasies, the misapprehension of subjects far beyond their years. She can see now that Paul is greatly aggrieved and greatly determined. She does not know what has caused this upset. She studies his traveling supplies and says, "I see. Is that why you've packed us honey cake?"

"Yes!" Her son beams. "There's one slice for me and one slice for you! I think, if we eat slowly, we shall be able to make it last for days."

"They are very generous slices," concedes Jessica. "Have you informed your father of our plans?"

At this mention of his father, Paul's face darkens into a ferocious little scowl. "But it is because of him that we are leaving!"

    Summary

"I would like to have a picnic in the gardens," Paul declared.

Jessica said, "Well, of course we can have a picnic."

With a child's forthrightness, her son shook his head, his dark curls bouncing, and replied, "No, Mother. I would like to have a picnic by myself."

"Oh! I see!" She was unexpectedly stung by this small rejection. Her son was not too old to ask to be carried here and there, or to be tucked into bed, but lately he had become more independent in other ways. This was clearly one such way. "Yes, that can be arranged."
