Nonetheless, the rest of the room could only meet the news with shocked faces.
Steve waited outside the door, not ready to face the others just yet. He hadn’t even been able to bring himself to join the others making the announcement, listening to the gasps and quiet murmurs. “I wish it hadn’t happened this way,” Steve said into the doorframe.
“I am choosing to not take that personally.”
