Rumi watched as the figure, adorned in his black hanbok and gat, descended from above like an angel of death. Jinu. There was no mistaking it. It was actually him. It was clear he was in his demon form. She could see the glow of his golden eyes, looking right at her.
“Pray for me now…” The chanting increased. Loud and deep.
This wasn’t right.
Something was wrong.
Abruptly, like a puppet who had its strings cut, Jinu fell to the ground, landing harshly on the stage with a resounding thud.
The crowd screamed.

An astounded laugh catches in Astarion’s throat. What an absurd situation he finds himself in. Here he sits, half-naked with his partner sitting between his legs and a comb in his hands. A hundred years ago – hells, even a few months back – this would have felt like a scene in a sappy romance novel that he had read and rolled his eyes at, finding it an unrealistic portrayal of humanoid connection. He would have been fully exposed by now, performing pleasurable acts to those who saw his crystal ball stare and projected their fantasies into the glass. Gale remains quiet, but the atmosphere feels heavy; burdened by the unasked and unanswered.

Astarion is used to torture. The past few years have made sure of that. He’s used to the ripping off of fingernails, the carving of his pale skin, the lashing, the stabbing, the slicing, the agony of it all. He’s used to claws digging into his lungs and tearing out his prettiest screams.
But this? This was the first time anything of this sort had happened.
It was the first time Astarion’s ruthless desire to survive slipped away, and in that moment, he wanted nothing more than to cower in the sweet clutches of death.
