The two boys began trading hits, yelling at the top of their lungs. Bruce turned back to the webcam just as Damian leapt on top of Tim’s back, a high-pitched battle cry torn from his lips.
“Mr. Hodges,” he said cheerfully, unflinching as Tim threw Damian into the wet bar sink. “Have you had a chance to examine the chart I pointed out?”

There's the Edward Elric the rest of the world knows, the great Fullmetal Alchemist, the child prodigy who could basically do anything.
And then there's the Ed that only Al ever sees, the one who complains that lights are too loud, doesn't understand people, and flaps his hands when he figures out an alchemical breakthrough.
Al knows that if the rest of the world saw the other side of Ed, they would think they could separate the two sides of Ed, pull away all the parts they didn't understand. But Al knows that both sides are just... Ed. So Al will always be the safe spot where Ed can be all of himself.

Summary
Truth has a favor to ask. One of impossible magnitude. Transdimensional Travel in return for his little brother's body. Really, did Ed even have an option in the first place? It was too good to be true, he knew, but what if he never got a chance like this again? What if something happened before he could get Al's body back? He didn't want him to live the rest of his life in an unfeeling suit of cold armor. He'd rather die a thousand deaths then let Al continue on like that for any longer than he had to. It was Ed's fault Al was stuck like that, so Ed was going to be the one to fix it, no matter the cost.
There isn't anything he wouldn't do for his little brother.
