    He can’t stop thinking about the fucking ankle. About what it represents. The sensuality of the muscles and tendons underneath the flesh, begging for the press of his fingerprints, the indention of his teeth, those same ankles crossed and pressed into Alex’s lower back, the sweet symphony of two bodies finding solace and pleasure in one another even if only until morning light breaks through the curtains.

    newly out as bi, alex decides the best way to commemorate the occasion is to sleep with the most well-endowed guy on campus. henry thinks he might be insane, and isn't quite sure what that says about him for being the one to catch feelings when this whole thing was just supposed to be practice in the first place. it all works out. eventually.

    “Oh, sweetheart,” Henry breathes, sitting beside him in the lounge chair, quickly grasping Alex’s hand in his own.

    Immediately, Alex knows what Henry is going to say. “No, I know,” he says quickly.

    Henry shakes his head at him. “No, I don't think you do,” he says in a hoarse voice. Alex looks closely at his husband and observes the dark circles under his eyes. It doesn’t look like he slept at all, and a pit forms in his stomach at the thought.

    “And even if you do,” Henry continues. “I need to say it. We are going to fight this,” he says firmly. “And we are going to go wherever we have to go, see whoever we have to see, and we are going to win. Because I'm not going to let anything happen to you.”

     

    Five years after moving to Austin, Henry and Alex are new parents to a beautiful baby boy, the light of their life. Alex is a stay-at-home Dad, while Henry is President of the Okonjo Foundation, breaking barriers to open a new shelter in Austin. Being new parents while balancing their career shifts is challenging enough. But when Alex receives a devastating diagnosis, will it bring them closer together, or drive them further apart?

    “Talk to him. They listen, they always listen,” Ligia says and Henry nods, she squeezes his hand again before turning back and leaving him alone in front of the ofrenda.

    It's very rare that Henry has been at a loss for words when he tries to talk to his father. He has spent countless nights speaking to the stars, looking for Orion and hoping that —wherever his father is— he is looking for it too.

    “Hi dad,” Henry says softly, taking another look at the picture of his father, smiling at the camera. “I missed you.”
