There was a beautiful young merman resting on the ocean floor. He liked to watch the large ships float by, briefly blocking out the light from the surface. It was no secret to those who knew him that he had a fascination with the humans who lived on the other side of their world. When he was still a child, a ship had wrecked over their village. The young merman had spent the following morning exploring through the treasure troves of jewels, sculptures, and the varieties of other sparkling items that scattered along the ocean floor. His prize possession became a marble statue of a human man. Carefully placed in the heart of his late mother’s garden, the man stood tall with a cape of fishing net draped over his shoulders.
