Summary
Eddie's hand shot up before his brain could stop him.
"Two thousand."
It was for the orphans.
The words left his mouth like they’d had been fired from a cannon, and every head at his table swivelled toward him.
"Eddie?" Chimney's eyebrows climbed so high they nearly lifted off his face.
"What." Eddie kept his gaze fixed on the stage, where Buck had gone very still, that grin frozen in place and his eyes locked directly on Eddie. “May can bid for Ravi, but I can’t bid for Buck?”
“I think that was different?” Chimney gaped at him. “…wasn’t it?”
Or
Eddie bids on Buck at the auction, things escalate from there.

Summary
To his left, a cluster of young men, barely old enough to be in here, were living their lives through their phone screens. They preened and posed, muscles straining against designer t-shirts, capturing manufactured moments of joy for an audience that wasn't here. Buck felt a surge of contempt so sharp and sudden it almost made him flinch. He’d been that young once, though his own brand of youthful idiocy had also involved running into burning buildings, not just perfecting a pout for Instagram.
To his right, a group of older men, their faces a roadmap of past disappointments, watched the younger crowd with a hungry, almost predatory nostalgia. They were looking for a night, an hour, a few minutes to feel like the men they used to be. Buck looked away. He was thirty-four, caught in the no-man’s-land between the two, and felt an uncomfortable kinship with both groups that made his skin crawl.
This was a mistake. He should have stayed home.

“Uhm, Eddie? What are you doing here?”
Eddie moves out of the pose and opens his eyes just to roll them playfully at Buck. “What does it look like to you? Spoiler alert, I'm not knitting.”
“Yes, I know that,” Buck huffs, crossing his arms. He tries his hardest not to stare at the muscles in Eddie’s legs but, christ, they are distracting. “I mean, what are you doing here, in my backyard? As far as I know you have one of those right behind your own house. Making it your backyard, which has a lot more space than mine does and is, you know, at home for you?”
“I am aware of my own backyard that I have been paying rent for almost a decade now, thanks Buck,” Eddie replies, his tone now definitely teasing.
Okay, rude.
“I didn’t think you’d mind.” Eddie shrugs again while moving into yet another yoga pose, one that Buck has never seen before.
“And I didn’t think you were into yoga,” Buck closes his eyes against the picture of Eddie squatting low and pushing his ass up in the air. “Since when exactly are you into yoga?”
Or the one where Eddie does yoga in Buck's backyard and (accidentally) melts Buck's brain a little while doing so.

Summary
"You want to drive two hours—three with traffic—to take Chris to the zoo? We have giraffes here in LA too, Buck."
"It's an open range zoo," Buck says, as though that explains everything. "I was thinking we could make a day of it!" he explains, gesticulating in his excitement in a way that is far too adorable for a thirty-year-old man. (Eddie really needs to get a grip.) "Drive over in the morning, I'll bring coffee and bake something mostly nutritional for breakfast so no one goes hungry, and we go straight to the zoo. Then, you and Chris can sleep in the car if you need and I'll drive us right back home."
Eddie sighs again, but this time it's because he knows he is going to say yes.
Or: Buck decides to take Chris and Eddie to the zoo. Eddie pines about it.
