Summary
In the first year of the Fourth Age, after three thousand one hundred and thirty-eight unhappy, furious, grieving years of being reborn into an Aman that has been trying very hard to pretend that everything is absolutely fine ever since Morgoth was banished from the world, Fingon the Valiant walked through the Door of Night into the Void to seek the fëa of Maedhros, Kinslayer, Self-Slain, who hated himself so much upon the moment of his death that he chose Everlasting Darkness voluntarily.
He left behind an extended family who is shocked and appalled to learn of this decision - and that Námo the Doomsman was the one holding the Door open for him.
Or: The last time one of the House of Finwë fell at the hands of a Vala in Aman, the Silmarillion happened.

Summary
The Valar did not lie when they told the Eldar their lost kin would return to them, only that it would take a long while. The healing of the dead cannot be rushed.
(A number of the dead have known Melkor and his ilk. Their healing cannot be rushed.)
It is fine to wait. Are they not immortal?
(These are a series of bullet point fics I initially wrote on tumblr, now crossposting here for more reliable archival purposes.)
