V saw Johnny throw the cigarette on the ground and stomp it out with his boot before he took a few steps to the bed, collapsed there, and fell asleep almost instantly. Nibbles padded towards the bed and sniffed at the hand hanging off of it. Then turned to look at V with a quiet meow, like she was asking her what just happened to her other favorite human to make him act so mean.
(or Johnny fucks up and has to face V the next day. Good thing that V loves him enough to listen).

V really had to stop spilling her life story to a stranger on the other side of the phone. It was either gonna end in embarrassment or her getting flatlined in the near future. If only his voice wasn't so nice to listen to.

Summary
Johnny goes missing for an entire day, and while that's not unusual, the complete lack of contact from him is. It's also his birthday so V goes looking for her missing partner in crime and hopes that they'll be able to turn this day around to something good still. And maybe figure out why it made him retreat so far away from everyone else.

Summary
Being in the heart of the city, seeing how nothing changed since he died, served to make him wonder what was the point of it all? Night City was the same void of injustice and suffering it always was and he was tired of it. But maybe the point of it all was standing at his door, looking miserable with a sheepish look on her face. Maybe all of it was worth it just for that.
(Or Johnny and V, a slightly less depressing ending, and Nibbles sleeping throughout this entire thing).

V clenched her hand around her glass and raised it to her lips.
''Here’s to that bastard, wherever he fucking is now.''
Her voice broke, and she quickly covered it up by downing everything that was still in her glass. Maybe in a kinder world, their ending would have been different, maybe both of them would have made it out of Mikoshi alive, but there were no happy endings in Night City for anyone.

Neither of them wanted to be there, outside of Afterlife, in the middle of the night, caught in pouring rain. With many people who would gladly put a bullet in both of them inside and outside. V just wanted to go home and maybe tell Johnny that she loved him because keeping it to herself started to chip away at her heart a little too much. What's the worst that could happen?
