Summary
A century ago, Link walked behind her. Steps in sync with hers, eyes always upon her back, his face a mask of indifference. Zelda wanted nothing more than to rid herself of his constant presence.
Five years ago, he walked beside her. A smile upon his face, mischief in his eyes, his expressions loud and free. Zelda basked in their joint freedom, their choices finally uninhibited.
Now, he walks before her. Sword drawn, eyes vigilant, ready to shield her from any danger, to keep her from being torn away from him once again. Zelda, truthfully, is at a loss for how to react.
A look at their lives before the Calamity, after the Calamity, and after the Upheaval.

‘Maud made it for me,’ Alan said. ‘She’s giving knitting a go, apparently.’
‘Is she, indeed?’ Jack smirked. ‘How lucky for Maud to have such a willing and attractive recipient.’
Alan’s mouth crept up at the corner too, and when he spoke it was as if savouring something delicious. ‘It’s so sweet that you somehow think you’ve got out of this.’
‘What—?’ Jack started, but Alan was already calling down the hall.
‘Maud!’ he shouted, holding Jack’s gaze. ‘His lordship wants his Christmas present.’

Summary
All Link seems to be able to do is remember. The weight of the past clings to him and ghosts of what he's lost follow him everywhere. Physically, he's riding horseback alongside the Princess, watching the sun sink beneath the horizon- but his mind is somewhere a hundred years ago.
Or- Link's memories remind him of how he fell in love with the Princess of Hyrule.
