A small self-deprecating chuckle comes through the line. It undoes Mira, one knot at a time.
“It wasn't enough.”
The volcano erupts. Fire running through her veins, molten. She can feel the sneer only because the muscles on her cheeks hurt.
“You won. That's what you wanted isn't it? When we were 18 and you made me promise I'd tell you. He touched me… and all I could think of was how it wasn't you.”
