Summary
As the winter snowpack sloughs off, bright buds of renewal and repair unfurl around Jackson. Three months pass outside the walls of Ellieʻs hospital room. Within: morose stagnation; dust fluttering into a wound that won’t heal as quickly as Ellie’s body will. Her body stitches itself back together while her chest hollows into a vacuum.
Dina is too observant, and loyal to a fault. If Ellie doesnʻt wanna talk about it, they wonʻt talk about it. Dina can feel it, the tension, but she’s unaware of the right words that could snap it free.
Canon-compliant with the HBO Series, shifting POVS/formatting.

In this simply regimented existence, what else could they want that was not already within the walls of the Fright Zone?

An ensemble piece exploring various scenes of life within the Fright Zone and growing up as child soldiers. Each chapter is from a certain age, starting from 3 years old; therefore, romantic feelings wonʻt start until later chapters. Back then, Kleya looked down on her with eyes like pitless wells of disdain, her dark-stained mouth set hard on a flat, unyielding mask, not a hair out of place, not a wrinkle on her Empire-chic business attire.
