Maybe it was delusional, but there was a small part of Wei Wuxian that dared to hope that Lan Wangji saw through the farce. That he saw him. It’d be a dream come true! One he would cherish forever and ever.
He missed him.
God, he missed him.
It'd been so long since he'd allowed himself a glimmer of hope. A smidge of longing. A moment to just want… to be loved. He could admit this now. Had known it all along, but had let pride, fear and revenge hold him back- had allowed it to push others away in an attempt at “protection” when all it had done was leave him broken.
Alone.
Utterly alone.
Now, Wei Wuxian allowed himself a small glimmer of hope. Hope that he and Lan Wangji could be in each other’s lives, to never be separated again and be ripped apart. It was his greatest wish. And… if he could be selfish, he wanted more. So much more that he’d never dared allowed himself to have before.

“That is the spirit!” Nie Huaisang says, a smile gracing his face again as he pulls out an envelope made of a thick, stocky paper. “There’s just one more thing,” Nie Huaisang adds. His grin looks less friendly, more sinister than before. “The Jiangs confirmed their attendance.”
Lan Zhan’s face would have fallen if he’d been making any expression.
Lan Zhan attends his brother's themed fundraiser night, and spends most of the evening pretending like he's not entirely obsessed with Wei Ying. It turns out Wei Ying might just be obsessed with Lan Zhan, though.

Wei Wuxian is perfectly content to be a beta in the modern-day Jiang sect, his status making no complications for his position as Head Disciple. His life’s course seems set until he crosses paths with Lan Wangji, Second Jade of the Lan and the rarest of occurrences, a late-blooming presentation, derails Wei Wuxian from the safety of his simple expectations.
Unable to remain with the sect that raised him, Wei Wuxian is plunged into an uncertain situation where he has to forge a new future with the one person he never thought he’d be courted by: the remote, rule-bound Lan Wangji who will barely spare him a glance. Wei Wuxian has never known a life where his own wishes are a factor but maybe, just maybe, he can find what he wants with the only alpha he wants.
If he can get that stubborn Lan Wangji to give him the time of day, that is.
