Summary
Maxwell snarls, his upper lip curling, and Longspot’s scent shifts, the ash becoming acrid. His eyes flare wide, and he takes a full step back. Maxwell is reminded of the boy at school, how he’d been so eager to throw the first punch, and then scrambled away as soon as Maxwell bloodied his teeth, shouting for help with tears in his eyes.
Then Longspot straightens, rolling his shoulders back. “Well,” he says, and Maxwell can taste the disdain in his voice now, where before he could only hear it. “It took you long enough.”
And that is all Longspot Gotch ever says on the subject of his youngest son being an omega.

Summary
When both Cadswitch and Longspot are killed on a business trip just before Samwell's 18th birthday, the Gotch boys aren't sure what their future holds. Unfortunately, Ouroboros Codswallop says that the Wind Riders now have legal custody until Samwell comes of age.
Nobody likes this. And Samwell's not about to be reasonable about it, so neither is anyone else.

“Wow, that’s great,” Sklonda says, kneeling down. Her heart warms at his expression. He’s so happy to see her. After Pok died, she worried he would never be happy again. She opens her arms, and Riz gives her a hug, his little limbs clinging like tentacles. “You waited up for me?”
“Penny said it’s okay ‘cause it’s Friday,” Riz says. “And ‘cause I’m super cute. And ‘cause I won Assassin five times, which is a lot. I mean six times. But it was only five times before.”
“Sorry,” Penny whispers.

Riz blows out a slow breath. He doesn’t want to admit it but it does sound appealing to spend the holidays with someone else, versus his quiet mornings in an empty apartment after his mom has left for her fourteenth shift in a row without a day off. He imagines what it might be like to bake with Fig or drink nog with Gorgug or even go to church with Kristen. It might be nice, he thinks, to be amongst people during some of the loneliest days of the year.
“Okay,” he chokes out. “I’ll do it.”
