Following the debacle that was the hunt for the Beast of Beauclair, Geralt finds himself settling into semi-retirement quite well and rides for the City of the Golden Towers to pay Ciri a visit. No sooner has he arrived than he gets caught up in one of Emhyr's schemes and finds himself heading right back to Toussaint to guard the emperor against assassins—not as a witcher, but as Emhyr's courtesan.

Erebor is being rebuilt and just in time for Bilbo and Thorin's wedding, which would be perfect, except for one problem. They're awkward together, they don't speak anymore, and they rarely see each other. It's nothing like when he first asked for Bilbo's hand, before they went to Erebor and...well. That happened. It's as if he no longer loves Bilbo anymore, and is marrying him out of duty or obligation.
And when Bilbo realizes that everyone else has figured that out except for him, he knows what he has to do.

Summary
While on a mission storming a HYDRA facility, James Buchanan Barnes touches one of the many strange alien devices collected by the Red Skull. He does this, in fact, twice— in the past, and in the future.
Next thing he knows, Bucky Barnes is opening his eyes in the 21st century, which is full of great gadgets and coffee, and at least includes his old pal Steve. (And, inexplicably, a different Stark.) Meanwhile, the Winter Soldier finds himself in the middle of World War Two, helping Captain America hunt down HYDRA (which is at least familiar), pretending to be Bucky Barnes (which is not), and figuring out the very noisy group of soldiers who call themselves the Howling Commandos.

Pretty much following the tradition of aliens-made-them-do-it [only kind of inverted], in which Kirk and Spock end up at a planet where they are not allowed to touch each other [due to religious issues, politeness protocol, whatever].
